I couldn't see the bigger picture. I prayed for you to release me from the pain. I BEGGED you.
I didn't expect what I got.
I drowned in grief. I felt nothing but darkness. I thought my heart had gone cold. I thought the sadness and anger would completely consume me. I cried for days, reliving past moments I had buried. I had to face shit from my childhood. I had to face people that shattered me. I had to physically feel the damage I never allowed myself to feel.
In real time, I felt my heart completely break.
But just as you promised. Just as you always have, you managed to get me through it. You managed to show me signs that I was GROWING through it. Not just drowning. I was rebuilding myself into the woman I knew I was meant to be.
Today I felt myself come up for air for the first time in WEEKS.
With complete detachment towards the very situations, habits, and connections I begged you to release me from.
Today I see the light again. Today I see the point of it all.
I may not fully understand. And Lord knows i am so fucking tired. But you've set me free.
Trauma healing is DEEEEEP and fucking PAINFUL work.
There were a few days I wondered if I was actually dying. And I was. To be reborn. Without the pain of the past holding me back.
For that? I will forever be grateful.

Thank you to everyone listening to my music. Ive sang since I was a toddler. That was my entire life. Choir, statewide contests, talent shows, and karaoke bars. Sang a few national anthems throughout the years as well. But being able to share MY SOUL on paper for people to connect with... I feel so utterly blessed.
