Brevard County Deputy Arrested For Child Abuse By City Of South Daytona - Government Police Department:

A Brevard County deputy is facing allegations following an investigation by the South Daytona Police Department involving an incident with his 10-year-old son.
According to a South Daytona Police affidavit, the child told investigators he entered his father’s bedroom to ask for food while his father and girlfriend were reportedly “wrestling.” The child stated he was told to leave the room, but after returning, an argument followed.
Investigators say the child reported being grabbed by the shirt, slammed against a wall, struck in the face with what the affidavit describes as an “open fist,” and then slammed onto a bed, causing his head to strike a cellphone with a hard case.
The report states the child later complained of headaches, dizziness, double vision, and light sensitivity. Medical paperwork referenced in the affidavit reportedly documented concussion-related symptoms.
The deputy, identified as Richard Thompson, was listed in the report as being employed by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the investigation. South Daytona Police say the agency was notified.
The affidavit lists allegations of battery causing bodily harm and child abuse without great bodily harm. The document appears to be a “pass along” affidavit connected to the investigation.
As with all cases, the allegations contained in the report are accusations until proven in court.

Deputy Accused of Stealing Narcotics From Public Drug Drop Box Arrested

A Sumter County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after investigators say he stole prescription narcotics from a medication disposal box intended for the public.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Dennis Leon Turner Jr. was taken into custody and fired from the agency following an internal investigation into missing medications from one of the department’s secure drug drop locations.
Officials say concerns were raised after evidence suggested the disposal box had been accessed improperly. Investigators then reportedly used covert surveillance, which allegedly captured Turner opening the container with a department-issued key and removing medications from inside.
Turner originally joined the sheriff’s office in 2019 as a civilian employee before later becoming a sworn deputy in 2023. At the time of the incident, he was assigned to community relations duties.
Sheriff Patrick Breeden described the arrest as disappointing and said the agency would not tolerate misconduct within the department. Breeden also stated that additional safeguards and reviews of internal procedures will be implemented to help prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Turner now faces several criminal charges, including:
- Two counts of grand theft involving controlled substances
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
- Burglary of an unoccupied structure
- Petit theft
Jail records show Turner was booked into custody on May 7, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Secret Service agent showed a little bit too much of the secret

Authorities say John Andrew Spillman was taken into custody by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on allegations of indecent exposure.
At the time of the incident, Spillman was reportedly assigned to a detail in the Miami area but was off-duty when the arrest occurred. Officials confirmed his assignment had wrapped up the day before.
Following the arrest, the Secret Service moved quickly, placing Spillman on administrative leave while both the criminal case and an internal investigation move forward.
In a statement, leadership within the agency made it clear the alleged behavior does not reflect the standards expected of its personnel, emphasizing that the matter is being taken seriously.
The case now shifts to the courts as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Polk deputy Arrested - According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Skylar Lamar Bush was arrested on April 28, 2026. He is charged with engaging in a romantic relationship with a student, tampering with evidence, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. The case came to light when another cadet reported suspicious interactions between Bush and a 16-year-old participant in the program. That tip prompted an immediate investigation. Detectives later spoke with the teen, who confirmed the communications and described some of the messages as unusual and concerning. Investigators say the messages went beyond professional boundaries. In some exchanges, Bush allegedly expressed strong personal feelings toward the minor, including statements about being in love and wanting a future with her. During an interview with detectives, Bush admitted to becoming emotionally involved with the cadet. Authorities say he also acknowledged deleting messages and telling the teen to do the same, actions that led to additional charges related to evidence tampering. Sheriff Grady Judd addressed the case publicly, calling the behavior unacceptable and describing it as an attempt to groom the minor. He noted that, at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication that the relationship became physical, but detectives are continuing to review the case.Bush, who had been working as an advisor within the cadet program, resigned from his position during the investigation. Officials stated that termination would have followed had he not stepped down. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who may have had similar interactions or additional information to contact investigators as the case remains active.

A Sarasota police officer is facing a criminal charge following allegations involving a 16-year-old girl, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officer Gabriel Ornellas-Victorio is accused of battery after investigators say he kissed the teen during a meeting in April. The affidavit states the two initially met while the girl was working, where the officer reportedly spoke with her regularly and positioned himself as a mentor. Authorities say the pair later arranged to meet at a Barnes & Noble on South Tamiami Trail. The teen told investigators she got into Ornellas’ vehicle, believing they would talk over coffee. While parked, she reported that the officer made her uncomfortable and ultimately kissed her on the lips against her will. According to the report, the girl immediately left the vehicle and returned to her mother, who had been waiting nearby. She later questioned the officer via text message about his actions. Detectives used traffic camera data to help confirm the officer’s movements that day. Based on the findings, investigators determined there was probable cause to charge Ornellas-Victorio with battery under Florida law.
