NO! NOPE! NOPERS!

While I'm a HUGE proponent of being proactive rather than reactive in your job search, there is a right and a wrong way.

This is a real message I received from a job seeker.

Rather than open a door, this person closed one.

Things they did right:

✅ Proactively reached out about a position

Things they did wrong:

❌ Everything else

This is a reminder to always keep your reach outs professional!

Thrift stores have taught me something about job search advice…

Not everything that looks valuable actually is.

Some advice is timeless.
Some is just fast fashion.

What never goes out of style:

• Building real connections
• Understanding the problem behind the job
• Clearly communicating “why you”

What will go out of style:

• Keyword stuffing
• White fonting
• AI mass applying for you

The basics stick around for a reason… they work.

What job search advice has worked for you?

If there's one piece of advice everyone should hear, it's this:

Stop waiting to be seen or heard and advocate for yourself.

Believe you're worth a bigger salary? Advocate for it.
Know you're ready for the next step in your career? Advocate for it.
Feel strongly about a project or initiative? Advocate for it.

Stop waiting for someone to notice.
Stop waiting for someone to give you what you deserve.
Stop waiting for someone else to speak up.

Stop waiting and be your own biggest advocate.

Being a content creator on YouTube is no joke!

There are times you wonder if anyone is actually watching, if anyone is getting value, if it's all worth it.

You put out what you think is a banger video and crickets.

You spend hours researching, planning and filming a topic just to realize it's not going to work.

You film the same intro 20 times, frustration mounting each time.

Then you hear your 7 year old ask your husband, "Can I watch one of mom's videos?"

And you realize you'll keep going because you believe in what you're doing.

Because you know you have value to offer.

Because there is at least one person watching and you don't want to let them or you down.

If you're using AI in your job search remember to add this 1 line to all of your prompts:

1) Ask me any clarifying questions before proceeding with my request.

This one line is a game changer!

Would you rather be judged by a resume or by a conversation?

I bet a conversation.

But when you only apply online, you’re letting a piece of paper do all the "talking".

If you want better results, apply on-line less and connect with people more.

Doing so transforms you from resume #56 to an actual person.

On the days I'm tired, a little dance party helps get the pep back in my step and ready to film🤣
