The Devi said, βWhen the asura named Aruna shall work great havoc in the three worlds, having taken a (collective) bee-form, consisting of innumerable bees, I shall slay the great asura for the good of the world. And then people shall laud me everywhere as Bhraamari.β
Arunasura was born with a boon that no two-legged or four-legged creature could subdue him, and he soon wrought great havoc throughout the three worlds. To destroy him, the Goddess assumed the collective form of innumerable bees and, accompanied by countless six-legged creatures, slew the wicked asura. Thereafter, She came to be worshipped throughout the world as Bhramari.
Devi Bhramari is unstoppable. She appears like a radiant cloud of light and shines with many colours. In her hand, she holds a bee of many beautiful colours. Bhramari Devi is also known as Mahamai or Mahamari.
The Devi Said, βAnd again, assuming a terrible form on the mountain Himaalaya, I shall destroy the raakshasas for the protection of the munis. Then all the munis, bowing their bodies reverently, shall praise me, and thereby I shall have the celebrated name of BhimaaDevi.β
Bhima Devi or Bhima Kali is described as blue in colour and fierce in appearance, with shining and protruding teeth, broad eyes, and a powerful feminine form with full breasts. She holds a drum, sword, severed head, and drinking vessel in her hands. She is also known as Ekaveera and Kaalratri (the Dark Night). Worshipping Her is believed to fulfill all wishes.
The Devi Said, βAt that time, O devas, I shall maintain the whole world with life-sustaining vegetables, born out of my (cosmic) body, till rains set in. I shall be famed on the earth then as Shaakambhari. At that very period I shall slay the great asura named Durgama. Thereby I shall have the celebrated name of DurgaaDevi.β
At that time, an asura named Durgamasura stole the four Vedas. Without the sacred scriptures, yajnas ceased, offerings to the gods stopped, and a terrible famine descended upon the earth.
The Goddess then manifested as Satakshi and Shakambhari to nourish the suffering world. Thereafter, She challenged Durgamasura to battle, and from Her divine form emerged countless powers the Ten Mahavidyas, Yoginis, Matrikas, and many other forms of Shakti.
With fifteen arrows, the Goddess destroyed Durgamaβs chariot, pride, limbs, and vision. Finally, five blazing arrows pierced his chest, freeing the four Vedas from captivity.
After restoring the Vedas and protecting the world once again, the sages worshipped Her with deep devotion. Since She slew Durgama, She became known as βDurgaβ.
The Devi said, βAnd again when rain shall fail for a period of hundred years, propitiated by the munis I shall be born on the drought-ridden earth, but not womb-begotten. Then I shall behold the munis with a hundred eyes and so mankind shall glorify me as the βhundred-eyedβ (Satakshi).β
Satakshi or Shakambhari Devi is blue in colour, like the petals of a blue lotus. The great Goddess resides upon a lotus and carries arrows, a lotus flower, a bundle of greens, and a radiant bow.
When the earth suffered a hundred years of drought and rainfall ceased completely, the sages prayed for the Goddess to appear upon the suffering world. Moved by the pain of humanity, hundreds of eyes awakened upon her body, and tears flowed from them to nourish creation once again. Continuous rain poured for nine days, and thus she became known as Satakshi β the Hundred-Eyed Goddess.

The Devi Said, 'And again having incarnated in a very terrible form on the earth, I shall slay the daanavas, who are the descendants of Viprachitti. When I shall devour the fierce and great asuras descended from Viprachitti, my teeth shall become red like the flower of pomegranate. Therefore when devas in heaven and men on the earth praise me, shall talk of me as Devi Raktadantika (The one with blood stained teeths).β
This terrifying form of the Goddess, known as Rakta Chamunda or Yogeswari, is drenched in blood from Her hair to Her teeth, nails, eyes, ornaments, and garments. Bearing a sword, drinking vessel, pestle & plough as Her weapons, She pervades the entire movable and immovable universe, yet continues to free Her devotees from all fear as Maa Raktadantika.

In the Murti Rahasyam, Devi declares that after taking birth from the womb of Yashoda and dwelling in the abode of the cowherd Nand, she shall be known as Bhagvati Nanda. Residing thereafter in the sacred Vindhyachal mountains, she shall be revered as Devi Vindhyavasini.
The two arrogant brothers, Shumbha and Nishumbha, will once again take birth upon the earth. Dwelling in the Vindhyachal mountains, she shall destroy them both, and hence be glorified as Vindhyavasini or Vindhyachalvasini.

The Devi said, βWhen the twenty-eighth age has arrived during the period of Vaivasvata Manu, two other great asuras, Shumbha and Nishumbha will be born. Then, born from the womb of Yashodaa, in the home of cowherd Nanda, and dwelling on the Vindhya mountains, I will destroy them both.β
Radiant like the finest gold, adorned in garments of golden brilliance, with splendor and ornaments of pure gold, bearing lotus, goad, noose, and conch in her four arms, she is known as Nanda in the form of the daughter of Nanda and Yashoda; she is also worshipped on earth as Indira, Kamala, and Lakshmi, seated upon a resplendent lotus, and she graciously bestows every boon and blessing upon her devotees.

The Great Goddess Kaushiki, having slain Shumbha and Nishumbha, took her seat upon the summit of the Himalayas. In praise of her glory, Indra and the other Devas began to offer hymns. For the welfare of the world, the gracious Devi then asked the Devas to seek a boon.
The Devas prayed to the Mother of the universe, acknowledging that she had manifested time and again for the welfare of the world, and beseeched her to destroy all the enemies of the three worlds and to always protect them.
The Devi then declared her eternal prophecy. To be continued...
