Today, I celebrate the sixteenth birthday of my daughter, Joerica. Raising Joerica has its own challenges, but as told by an old African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child.” Allow me to use this time to thank everyone who has shown Joerica love, we see you and appreciate your generosity.
To my mom and late grandmother who was there for Joerica from the day of birth, who stepped in and provided child care while I pursuit my education, thank you. Thanks for showing her what a grandmother’s love feels like. To Auntie Michelle, thanks for the love, support, and generosity shown since we met you; words can’t describe our gratitude enough.
As Joerica has named you, “Grandma Nancy,” thank you for all you have done for her. Every year, you have shown genuine compassion, that she has the best Christmas and birthday presents ever! However when in need of your support, you have supported us beyond measures. Thank you.
To my best friend, JoJo’s other mother, thanks for being a true auntie to Joerica, we love you. To my big sister Leachien, thanks for being an amazing aunt to Jojo as well. You are always concerned with her academic achievements—especially good grades, we appreciate all the support and love you have shown us.
Finally, to my social media family, thanks for all the love and support y’all have shown us, we see you and appreciate you all.
