The Hobbit was a grand quest of heroism, self-actualization, and greed. From start to finish, it was enjoyable and engaging as well as rewarding. Bilbo is a great protagonist. His development is great—growing into a matured version of himself. Smaug, albeit not appearing for the majority of the book, was a good villain. The side cast of characters was good too. Tolkien’s writing really benefits this story. It is a tad bit simple but it works perfectly here. It is easy to understand but it keeps you interested in the story and characters, not using a bunch of big words only a select few would know off of the top of their head. I’d recommend this book to anyone if they’d be interested. Overall, I give it a 9.6/10
My friend Ryan requested I watch some movies from his country and sent some, so I watched Sarjan Hassan—a black-and-white Malaysian war movie. I do not have much to say about this one. It was entertaining and the effects were good for the time. It could’ve been far worse. Although at points, it was hard to understand because sometimes there were no subtitles. But if that is worse thing that could happen, it could’ve been a lot worse. 8.75/10
I heard about this movie from a YouTube channel that covers many movies. It was featured series about movies with breathtaking animation. They were correct; this movie does, indeed, have great animation and detail within each scene. Along with that, this movie has great monologues and themes. The narrator does a great job delivering them as well. However, it can drag at some parts (it took me 3 days to finish this. Although some of it was probably procrastination on my part). But besides that, I do not have that many other gripes. The story could’ve had better characters outside of the protagonist, but I don’t think it was trying to have a big story with a great side cast like the Lord of the Rings or other movies, so I can’t hold that against it. I can’t believe this movie isn’t discussed more in the general film lover community. It is really interesting as well as well made. Overall, I give it a 9.5/10
Bro… I cried, son. I cried. The first time a film in the theater made me cry. This movie will probably be one of the best movies this year, if not this decade. My only gripe was that it was slow at some points, but that was easily made up by everything else. 9.6/10
