Cursed Voices Dark History Podcast

History whispers through the cursed and the forgotten.

Created by Jess (a historian) and Larry (a data-science researcher), we uncover the eerie tales that blur the line between folklore and fact.

Drawing from primary archives, academic sources, and forgotten folklore studies, we bring to life the dark stories that history left behind: haunting legends, cursed objects, and unsolved mysteries of centuries past.

Each creepy story is meticulously researched and retold with respect for both history and the scary lore that lingers within it.

Two academics went for a stroll through #Versailles in 1901 and accidentally walked into the 18th century. 🏰⏳

We’re diving into the Moberly-Jourdain Incident- the story of two women who insisted they walked through a hole in time. Between the creepy "dream-like" atmosphere they described and the skeptics who think they just crashed a fancy garden party, the math on this afternoon stroll is definitely not mathing. 🎙️🧤

See why you should always double-check your map at Versailles 👇

Me after 15 minutes of 'synergizing, circling back, and touching base.' 🍸📉

Degas really captured the universal feeling of wanting to be literally anywhere else. In the 1800s, they had Absinthe to deal with the soul-crushing boredom of a social obligation. All I have is a lukewarm seltzer and a looming deadline.🕯️

In the 16th century, the most dangerous books weren't the ones that summoned demons- they were the ones that taught you how to fake them. 🕯️⚖️

During the Renaissance, "scientific" manuals meant to expose possession actually became how-to guides for professional victims looking to settle a political score. If you wanted to destroy a rival, you didn't need a weapon; you just needed to memorize the symptoms from a demonology text and wait for the "exorcist" to arrive.

2026 WebMD: "You’re dehydrated, please drink a glass of water."
1780s Doctors: "We’ve decided you simply have too much blood. Let’s fix that immediately." 🩸💉

Honestly, I’ll take the water, but you have to admire the 18th-century commitment to a singular solution.

Migraine? Bloodletting. Fever? Bloodletting. Existential dread? You guessed it.

At least back then you didn't have to wait six months for a specialist referral- they just grabbed the leeches and called it a day. 🧐🩹

POV: You’re at the corporate “wellness retreat” and everyone finally realizes this “culture change” is just a slow march toward the inevitable. 💀🤝

The 18th century really understood work-life balance- it was mostly just work until you became a woodcut on a public health pamphlet. This meeting definitely could have been an email, but instead, it’s a Danse Macabre.

Honestly, if your Monday morning feels like a 14th-century plague ward, you’re legally allowed to claim “historical ennui” and go home. 📜🔥

What happens when a fairy tale enters a court of law? In 1660, Peter Rahm gave a sworn testimony about an encounter that defied explanation- a night when folklore literally knocked on his door.

For centuries, this specific 'Vittra' case has stood as Sweden’s most documented supernatural event, recorded not in a storybook, but in a legal ledger.

Explore the 1660 incident that forced a nation to confront the shadows in its own forests... a night when Swedish Folklore became all too real. 👇

Me: Sorry, I can’t come to brunch. I’m currently 400 pages deep into a 16th-century plague journal and the drama is just hitting its peak. 💅📚

Why go outside and deal with modern small talk when you can stay in and judge 18th-century medical decisions from the safety of your pajamas?🕯️🧤

In 1855, Devon, England, woke up to a 100-mile trail of hoof-prints that didn't care about things like "walls" or "gravity." 👣❄️

These tracks didn't just walk down the street- they went over rooftops and through haystacks as if the physical world was just a suggestion.

The town's collective conclusion? The Devil was out for a very long, very vertical midnight stroll. The math on this being a "hopping mouse" is definitely not mathing. 🧐🏰
