It is not permissible to name someone only “Rahman” (or “Ar-Rahman”).
“Rahman” is on the pattern فَعْلان (faʿlān), which indicates fullness and intensity — a meaning unique to Allah’s perfect mercy.
So the correct form is:
“Abdur-Rahman” — servant of the Most Merciful.
