GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS was released on this day, April 27, 1956 in the United States.
The Japanese original film was directed by Ishirō Honda and released in 1954 in Japan. To appeal to an American audience, Terry O. Morse was hired to direct additional scenes with actor Raymond Burr playing reporter Steve Martin. The character Burr plays is visiting Japan during the time of Godzilla’s first appearance and attack on the city of Tokyo.
