Your brain is constantly sending tiny electrical signals—even while you're asleep. An Electroencephalogram (EEG) records these signals to help neurologists understand how your brain is functioning and identify conditions like epilepsy, seizures, sleep disorders, and other neurological concerns.

Here's a quick guide to the 4 common types of EEG:

🔹 1. Routine EEG
A short 20–30 minute test performed while you're awake. It's the first step in evaluating brain activity and detecting abnormalities.

🔹 2. Sleep EEG
Conducted while you're asleep to capture brain wave patterns that may only appear during different stages of sleep.

🔹3. Sleep-Deprived EEG
After staying awake for an extended period, the brain is more likely to reveal hidden electrical abnormalities, making this test especially useful when routine EEG results are normal.

🔹 4. Prolonged EEG
A continuous recording over several hours or even days, monitoring both wakefulness and sleep to capture events that occur infrequently.

The right EEG depends on your symptoms and your neurologist's assessment. Choosing the appropriate test improves the chances of reaching an accurate diagnosis and the best treatment plan.

If you or your child has seizures, unexplained fainting, episodes of staring, or sleep-related neurological concerns, consult a neurologist for expert evaluation.

What NO ONE tells you about CBD for Epilepsy

CBD is one of the most talked-about treatments for epilepsy—but also one of the most misunderstood.

Many parents hear success stories online and believe CBD is a miracle cure. The truth is much more nuanced.

✅ Here's what every parent should know:
• CBD does not cure epilepsy.
• It may help certain types of epilepsy, but only in carefully selected patients.
• CBD is not the same as marijuana—they contain different compounds and have different effects.
• Unregulated CBD products can contain incorrect doses, harmful contaminants, or THC, which may actually worsen seizures.
• Never stop anti-seizure medications without consulting your neurologist.
• CBD, when prescribed, is generally used as an add-on therapy, not a replacement.

The biggest risk isn't CBD itself—it's using unregulated products without proper medical guidance.

Every child with epilepsy is unique. The right treatment depends on the type of epilepsy, the child's medical history, and specialist evaluation.

Evidence over hype. Facts over myths. Always seek expert medical advice before considering CBD for epilepsy.

Before You Try CBD for Epilepsy… Read This

When seizures don’t stop, parents naturally look for every possible option for their child.

But when it comes to epilepsy treatment, hope must always be guided by evidence.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is not a miracle cure — and it is not suitable for every child with seizures.

CBD has proven benefits in specific epilepsy conditions like:
• Dravet Syndrome
• Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
• Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

But using CBD without proper medical guidance can lead to:
⚠️ Wrong dosage
⚠️ Unknown ingredients
⚠️ Possible harmful interactions with other medicines

Remember:
CBD ≠ THC
Medical CBD ≠ Bhang/Ganja/Charas

One of the biggest concerns today is not CBD itself — it is misinformation and unregulated use.

As a pediatric neurologist, my goal is simple:

Right patient.
Right treatment.
Right dose.

If you are considering CBD for your child’s epilepsy, always discuss it with a qualified healthcare professional first.

Let’s move from hope-driven decisions to evidence-based care.

📌 Save this post to make informed decisions about epilepsy care.

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI): Myths vs Facts

Did you know that a child can have a normal eye examination and still experience vision difficulties?

In Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), the eyes may be healthy, but the brain has difficulty processing and understanding visual information.

MYTH: There is no treatment. Nothing can be done.

FACT: While there is no eye drop or quick cure for CVI, the brain has an incredible ability to learn and adapt. Early identification and intervention can help children improve their visual skills and reach their full potential.

Children with CVI may:
🔹 Struggle to recognize faces
🔹 Avoid eye contact or look away during interactions
🔹 Prefer bright lights or shiny objects
🔹 Feel overwhelmed in busy or cluttered environments
🔹 Show changes in visual performance from day to day
🔹 Have associated developmental delays

Early intervention can make a difference through:
🔹 Visual stimulation activities
🔹 Bright, high-contrast objects
🔹 Presenting one object at a time
🔹 Repetition and consistency
🔹 Structured therapy and support programs

If your child:
• Avoids eye contact
• Looks at lights more than faces
• Gets confused in busy places
• Has developmental delays

Ask your doctor: "Could this be Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)?"

Early recognition, the right environment, and appropriate therapy can help children thrive.

Save this post for future reference and share it with parents, teachers, and caregivers to spread awareness about CVI.

FEBRILE SEIZURES IN CHILDREN
What Every Parent Should Know
Stay informed. Stay calm. Save lives.
Early awareness and correct first aid are essential.

COMMON MYTHS
“Vaccines caused epilepsy”
“It happened because of evil eye”
“Put a spoon or fingers in the mouth”
“Make the child smell onion or slipper”
“Pour cold water immediately”

These actions may increase harm and delay proper care.

FACTS ABOUT VACCINATION
• Vaccines do NOT cause epilepsy.
• In rare situations, fever after vaccination may trigger a febrile seizure in children already prone to seizures.
• However, vaccines protect children against serious infections that can lead to high fever and severe illness.
• Vaccination remains one of the safest and most effective ways to protect children’s health.

WHAT PARENTS SHOULD DO
• Place the child gently on their side
• Keep the area safe and remove nearby sharp objects
• Loosen tight clothing
• Do NOT place anything inside the mouth
• Observe and time the seizure carefully
• Remain calm and monitor breathing

SEEK URGENT MEDICAL CARE IF
• The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes
• Only one side of the body is jerking
• The child does not regain consciousness properly
• The child is below 6 months of age
• There is difficulty breathing or repeated seizures

• A calm and informed response during a febrile seizure can make all the difference for a child and their family.
Save this post. Share it with parents, teachers and caregivers.

• Febrile seizures are one of the most frightening experiences for parents, but panic and misinformation can make the situation more difficult.

• Many harmful myths still circulate regarding seizures and vaccination. It is important for parents and caregivers to understand the facts, follow safe first-aid practices, and know when urgent medical attention is required.

Key reminders:
• Vaccines do NOT cause epilepsy
• Most febrile seizures are brief and harmless
• Never place objects inside the child’s mouth during a seizure
• Staying calm and acting correctly is essential

Febrile Seizures: Myths vs Facts

Watching your child have a seizure during fever can be frightening for any parent. But knowing the facts can help you stay calm and respond correctly.

• Most febrile seizures are triggered by fever and do not mean your child has epilepsy.
• Simple febrile seizures usually do not cause brain damage or affect intelligence.
• Most children outgrow febrile seizures by 5–6 years of age.
• Never put a spoon, cloth, or fingers into the child’s mouth during a seizure.
• Gently turn the child onto their side and seek medical guidance.

Seek urgent medical care if:
• The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes
• Jerking happens only on one side of the body
• The child does not wake up properly afterward
• The baby is below 6 months of age

Awareness reduces fear, and calm parents make safer decisions. Save this post and share it with someone who may need it.
