Hello friends!

We made it through another year! 2022 was absolutely wild in so many ways, but for me, there was one constant that remained wonderful throughout it all: you. You are the ones who watch, comment, and support my work. You inspire me in so many ways to do more and better things. And genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, none of this would be possible without you.

When I started this channel about 2 years ago I never imagined I'd find such a lively and kindhearted community of likeminded souls and seekers. I can’t tell you how grateful I am, and what it means to me to have received so many warm messages of support for what I’m doing. 

Even more inspiring are the many people I see lifting each other up in the comments.

You are an absolutely vital part of this channel. You are living proof that the internet doesn’t have to be a toxic place. And we can build a community of light and love together.

Thank you for sharing another year with me. Thank you for being a part of my journey, and letting me be a part of yours. My absolute best wishes to all of you and your loved ones in 2023! We’re going to do some amazing things together this year.

I've recently become aware of websites posing as "Modern Intuitionist" asking for donations, such as the one pictured here. These are all scams. Please don't visit the site shown in this picture. I have never, and will never ask for random donations. I will also never contact you in the comments asking for payment of any kind. If you notice any such comments under my videos, please be a dear, and press the report button. 

In the meantime, I am looking into how to deal with this problem. If anyone has any suggestions on how to handle someone misleadingly impersonating your website, please do let me know in the comments.

I understand these are desperate times for many, and that perhaps brings out the scammers trying to take advantage of others. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Thanks so much, I love you all.

Hello friends! I’ve been absolutely blown away and overwhelmed by all the very kind messages of love and support from all of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. I’m grateful for each and every one of you.

I thought I’d give an update on Bill C-11 in Canada, since a number of people have asked.

Unfortunately, Bill C-11 has passed in the House of Commons: globalnews.ca/news/8937589/online-streaming-bill-s…

However, there is one more step before it becomes law; it must pass the Senate. Most of the time, the Senate approves whatever has passed in the House. But in very rare cases, the Senate can block a Bill if there’s enough public support to stop it.

Law Professor and internet expert Michael Geist has said that emailing a Canadian Senator is the single best thing you can do to protect a free and open internet in Canada. So there’s a tiny sliver of hope, and there's still time to do that here: digitalfirstcanada.ca/bills/fix-c11/

It's basically a copy-pasted email that goes to your Senator to let them know you oppose this Bill. And even if you’re not Canadian you can add your voice as a “concerned global citizen.”

For those just tuning in, here is a summary of why Bill C-11 is so concerning:

1. Bill C-11 gives the government the power to regulate all audiovisual content on the internet, including YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Netflix, and all podcast clients. www.michaelgeist.ca/2022/06/the-bill-c-11-effect and also see www.michaelgeist.ca/2022/05/the-governments-gaslig…

2. This Bill lets the government decide what is “discoverable” online. The threat of censorship remains very real, and a free and open internet is essential to a functioning democracy. Even if you’re not Canadian, this sets a very concerning precedent. Other countries could introduce the same model to regulate their own internet, and control the free flow of ideas in the same way.

I’m not a political channel, and I’ve never made a post like this. I hope that in itself shows the urgency of the political situation in my country: Canada.

If you’ve enjoyed anything on this channel (or from any Canadian Youtuber), please understand that all independent Canadian YouTube channels like mine are now under threat.

The government of Canada is trying to pass a law that would completely change the internet as we know it. It’s called Bill C-11 and it gives them the power to regulate what podcasts you can listen to, what shows you can watch, and what online platforms are available.

Imagine waking up one day and turning on Netflix, Spotify, or Youtube and finding that the content you actually want is suddenly no longer “discoverable.” Instead your feed is now filled with content that the government decides is "patriotic" and “Canadian enough.”

What does it mean to be “Canadian enough”? The government decides. If this passes, every online content creator in Canada, no matter how small, will now have to apply for an expensive and time consuming process to prove that their channel is “Canadian enough” or else it will be buried and hidden from discovery.

Who does this law help? Large corporations and main stream media, who have the resources to have their content boosted over independent creators.

Canadian law professor Michael Geist who is an expert in Internet Law has also spoken out against this Bill: www.michaelgeist.ca/2022/02/b...

Because this Bill is written in such a broad and vague way, the potential for abuse is significant. The government could conceivably use this law to silence “dissenting opinions” by burying them in the algorithm. At the same time it can flood your feed with the “approved” government message of the day. To date, I’m not aware of any country in the world (other than China) that regulates the internet like this. 

Even if you’re not in Canada, witnessing this happen in a free and democratic country like ours is very concerning. If this law passes, it is a model that could spread and be adopted in your country too.

So what can we do?

There’s not much time left. The Bill is being fast tracked to stop further discussion. The government is adding “secret amendments” to the Bill that cannot be debated and can’t be seen by the public. www.michaelgeist.ca/2022/06/s...

There will be a vote in Parliament on June 14, 2022 which could pass by June 17, 2022.

This is kind of a strange milestone for me.

I published my first video a little over a year ago. I’d never made a video before, and I was anxious about how it was going to turn out.

The night before, I had a dream about riding a train filled with strangers, and when I got out, I no longer recognized where I was.

The next day, I went on a hike in the mountains, and I told my brother about the train in my dream. At exactly that moment, we both heard the sound of a train. It was a very startling and strange experience. “You could’ve mentioned your train dream at any time in our hike, but you brought it up at the only moment in the day… just before we heard that train,” he said.

Was it a sign? These “meaningful coincidences” might seem small, but they stop us in our tracks. They have the power to transform. And they've definitely changed my life.

I’m humbled and thankful for everyone who has taken the time to watch my videos, to leave a comment, or simply say hello.

2,222 subscribers isn’t a huge number in the grand scheme of things. But it’s certainly more than I imagined, and it's still mind-blowing for me to think about. If you all showed up at my house, I’d be shocked, overwhelmed, and I definitely wouldn’t have enough snacks for everyone.

So thank you for being a part of my journey! I appreciate each and every one of you.
