Part 4 – Liberty of the Seas 🚢 | Final Evening & Homeward Bound

Sadly, it was our final evening onboard. It only feels like yesterday that it was our first night... oh wait, it was! 😆

After missing our 5:15pm MDR dinner slot once again, we decided to try Johnny Rockets, Liberty's American-style diner. At €15 per adult (half price for under 11s), it was worth a try.

For starters and sides, I went for the onion rings, while the kids chose fries and cheese fries. Mains were burgers for me and Ernest, while Alice opted for a cheese toastie. We finished by sharing a sundae and apple pie.

The food was nice, but was it worth the extra cost? Probably not. It would have been great if there had been a bit more atmosphere onboard and perhaps a working jukebox!

After dinner, while Alice got ready for the evening, Ernest and I headed to the hot tubs.

The night began outside the British pub watching the World Cup. Alice was thrilled... well, not really! Thankfully, a little retail therapy soon cheered her up. 🛍️

Next up was Saturday Night Fever. I'd forgotten it was the full Broadway production - a whopping 90 minutes! Alice and I loved it, although Ernest managed to fit in three World Cup score checks and two toilet trips during the show. ⚽😂

We finished the evening back at the Hoof & Claw with another drink and, of course, more football.

Before we knew it, we were waking up back in Southampton. A final Windjammer breakfast, a stroll down to the gangway, and just like embarkation, disembarkation was smooth and quick.

What a fantastic 48 hours onboard Liberty of the Seas. Short, sweet, and packed with memories. 🚢

Liberty of the Seas – Day 2 Morning 🇫🇷

Day 2 started early... very early! 5:30am (or 6:30am depending on whether you believed the ship or my phone! 😂).

I was up for an early morning ship tour, one of my favourite times to explore when the decks are quiet and peaceful. After a quick nap, I was rudely awakened by a cabin announcement... because I'd forgotten I'd switched them on! 🤦‍♂️

Brunch in the Main Dining Room was next. Service was a little slow, but the Eggs Benedict were excellent. 👌

Then came quiz time. Three quizzes in a row! We won't mention the first two, but the third was a songs-in-reverse quiz where we scored a perfect 20/20. 🎵🏆

Alice wanted to visit Le Havre, so we hopped on the shuttle bus using tickets kindly gifted to us by three lovely cruisers heading back to the ship. We enjoyed a sunny stroll around town, a drink in the sunshine, and a quick stop at the shopping centre (including frozen yoghurt, JD Sports and Primark! 😆).

Back onboard it was time for Sorrento's pizza, the waterslides and some rock climbing before another fun evening at sea.

🚢 Liberty of the Seas Embarkation Day Recap!

We arrived at Southampton's City Terminal at 10:30am and, as always with Royal Caribbean, embarkation was smooth and efficient. Just 20 minutes from dropping our bags to being onboard and checked in at our muster station!

First stop? The Windjammer, where the staff were dancing to welcome guests onboard. The buffet was already open and the food selection was excellent.

Next up was a quick tour of the kids' club and spa. The kids' club has been refreshed but is now smaller to make way for extra cabins, while the spa felt quite compact compared to newer ships.

With swimwear packed in our hand luggage, we headed straight for the pools, hot tubs and a mocktail at Lime & Coconut.

At 1pm our cabin was ready. We'd booked an inside cabin but won a RoyalUp bid to an aft balcony a lovely surprise! Alice quickly claimed the top bunk after a lengthy family debate. 🤣

The afternoon included a quiz (we scored a mighty 6 points!), a football challenge for Ernest, and discovering one of the best hidden spots onboard the helicopter pad at the very front of Deck 5. The sailaway views from here are incredible!

Welcome to Day 4 of our cruise… and sadly disembarkation day 😭🚢
Honestly… I could’ve stayed another week!
Now this turned into a VERY long day. It started at 7:30am… and didn’t end until I finally got into bed at 7am Spanish time the next morning 😳. More on that shortly…
The girls’ cabin had a 6:30am disembarkation time, while the boys had 8am. Confession time though… in all our cruises we have NEVER actually gone to the designated waiting lounges 👀.
We always get up in good time, have a leisurely breakfast, then quietly stroll off before the final disembarkation time around 10am. Surely we can’t be the only ones who do this? 😂
Once off the ship we jumped on the cruise transfer bus and, as we’ve now come to expect from Royal Caribbean, it was smooth, quick and really well organised. No stress at all.
We then decided to walk the whole of Las Ramblas with our luggage before dropping it off for the day. Now this surprised me… our luggage storage place turned out to literally be a small supermarket 😂.
I’d found a site called Bounce which lets you book luggage storage in loads of cities worldwide. Ours was in a little 24-hour supermarket with loads of reviews. We dropped the cases off for 8 hours and picked them up later that evening. Perfect service and only around £10 for all the luggage — MUCH cheaper than airport or station lockers. Would definitely recommend Bounce if you ever need luggage storage.
Barcelona though… wow ❤️
I genuinely think it might be my favourite city. Every time we visit it just delivers. The shopping, the atmosphere, the tapas, stopping off at El Nacional food hall, ice cream, wandering the streets… absolutely love Barcelona.
Eventually it was time for the Aerobus to the airport — around €30 for the four of us and they run every 10 minutes. Super easy.
We checked into our flight , sat down for some food and I casually checked the easyJet app to see where our incoming aircraft was…
BIG mistake 😅
Thirty minutes after taking off from Gatwick… our aircraft had turned around and gone BACK to Gatwick 😳.
Oh joy.
To cut a very long story short… the aircraft had suffered a bird strike, meaning we needed both a replacement aircraft AND a new crew.
This then turned into an EIGHT HOUR airport wait… until 3am 😩
At least easyJet gave us €36 in food vouchers… which somehow ended up being spent in McDonald’s at 11pm 🙄🍟
Finally boarded at 3am, flew home, drove back from the airport and eventually crawled into bed around 6am UK time.
One of those days where afterwards you genuinely sit there thinking…
“Did that actually happen?” 😂
But did any of this spoil the cruise?
ABSOLUTELY NOT 🚢🔥
Harmony of the Seas was incredible from start to finish. Royal Caribbean really are at the top of their game right now and I completely understand why so many people are loyal to Royal.
They just do cruising RIGHT in 2026 👏
