Yesterday, we talked about how to fit different DC characters into the "Absolute Universe." What character do you think deserves an Absolute title the most?
I got a chance to play the “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” early! WB Games invited me to play about 2 hours of the game, including a handful of main story missions and open world exploration. And I loved it!
If you want to see my full thoughts and extended gameplay commentary that'll be available for the Amazing and Spectacular tiers of my Patreon and Channel Members. But here are some of the things that stood out to me:
🦇 It’s basically just “Batman Arkham” but everybody’s made of LEGO. Combat, stealth, traversal, everything seems to be using those games as the basis for their design.
🦇 The open world is really huge and dense, think like the best parts of The Skywalker Saga. There were random crimes, collectibles, Riddler challenges, Batmobile races (not Riddler related at least), and even Cluemaster challenges. So clearly a TON to do in this game.
🦇 TT Games clearly has so much love for Batman and his history. It’s blending the movies, comics, games, and animated series in a seamless story that has a lot of potential to be “the definitive Batman game.” The last thing I saw was a faithful near one-to-one recreation of the B:TAS intro.
🦇 The characters all played very differently, Robin specifically was a standout for me. He plays with the Escrima Sticks which is a really fun way to show his eventual growth into Nightwing. They don’t have the usual Lego “hundreds of characters” but instead they have a handful of characters that each have different feels and skillsets.
🦇 THE SUITS oh my god the suits are so much fun, like Absolute Batman/Catwoman, the one from the original 2008 Lego Batman Video Game, and also a Skeleton Jim Gordon which is pulled from Zdarsky’s run. They each have a handful of different color options, and even included the first appearance issue which was a nice touch.
🦇 Because it's "Lego Arkham" the stuff we’re used to with Arkham (combat, gliding, stealth) doesn’t feel quite as good, which is expected because it’s still a LEGO game, but can be a little jarring because conceptually it’s all so similar. The open world gliding especially felt the most “off” for me.
“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” launches May 22, 2026, with early access starting May 19th for Deluxe Edition pre-orders.
Thanks again to WB Games for providing early access and inviting me to this amazing event!
