I'm Rod from California. I love backpacking, fishing, knives, EDC, trail running, fitness, and now.. training for an ultramarathon.

This is where I share my adventures and hope to learn, explore, and chill.

Well, the streak is over. I noticed there's a Spyderco Sale going on.
I ordered a Chaparral Serrated for $105 at Freedom Knife Shop.
freedomknifeshop.com/products/spyderco-chaparral-f…
I just like the idea of having a super thin serrated blade on me. I dig the super thin clip point on the Dyad Jr but the Sheepsfoot Serrated blade has a thicker Saber grind.
I really like the thinner flat ground Serrated blade on the Leafjumper K390.
I basically wanted a smaller/thinner version of that to slice through cardboard at work.

I finally started editing the Redfern Pond backpacking trip. It's been a struggle to get me to sit down and edit. I cleaned up the room, did some laundry, and moved the laptop off the desk.
Normally I treat the laptop more as a desktop with the keyboard, mouse, speaker system, and 4K TV hooked up to it.
Maybe if I put myself in a pleasant or cozy environment I'll treat editing video as a reward 😂

QSP Jumping Jack
This was my first modern slipjoint and still one of my favorites. I dig the Coke Bottle shape. It's locked in when in hand.
The fit and finish is perfect. It uses 14C28N steel. The blade is thick along the spine behind the belly. Very tough. It's like a little Nessmuk slipjoint.

After work carry: Ontario RAT 1.5 in MagnaCut
I like this knife a lot. Excellent action. It has the loudest snap when flicking it open. When closing it's smooth like glass. There's a satisfying click when the detent ball settles in.
I just noticed on KnifeCenter there's more options. There's now a Brown G10 and Black G10 with Carbon Fiber Overlay.
This is probably the best deal for a locking folding knife with MagnaCut at under $100.
It could last generations. Very tough.

I'm starting to run a bit again. Two days in a row. Very slow and low mileage. I still feel a bit of some type of tendonitis in the left heel/Achilles and somewhere in the groin/hip area but it's getting better and it felt better the more I ran. This gives me a bit of confidence.
Trying to be consistent. I set an Intention for my Bullet Journal: "Be consistent to create positive health and longevity habits."

Minimalist EDC Journal:
Victorinox Bantam Alox
Rite in the Rain Monsoon OTG Wallet

I went on a walk earlier. Realized I don't need to carry a relatively huge Traveler's Notebook on me when doing more training related activities.
With my system using Field Notes as my all in one bullet journal setup, it's tiny compared to others but still seems big for carrying everywhere. Especially for walks or runs.

Switching it up for an afternoon walk.
I'm reusing the Rite in the Rain Monsoon OTG Wallet for a minimalist scratch bullet journal. I can write down...
thoughts that may come up.
something I noticed.
a song or YouTube video I want to reference back to and so on.

I could transfer the entries into my main journal later.

The Victorinox Bantam Alox is my favorite SAK. It's so thin it can fit in the wallet.

The Pokka Pen that came with the wallet has been my go to pen. It's durable and very lightweight. It uses a non-removable Fisher Space Pen insert made for Rite in the Rain. I like the finer point.
