Dependent Iqama Renewal Policy: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports has introduced a new policy that allows residents to renew their “Iqama” (residency permit) even if some dependents or companions are currently outside the country, as long as the head of the household remains within the Kingdom.
Itakaf update 2025: Nationality and Residency: Only Saudi nationals and residents with a valid Iqama (residency permit) are eligible to apply. International visitors without an Iqama are not permitted to register for Itikaf this year.
Itikaf, a spiritual retreat observed during the last ten days of Ramadan, is facilitated at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. For the year 2025, online registration for Itikaf will commence on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM via the official website of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.
Click on "Register for new account" (تسجيــــل مستخـــدم جديد).
Fill in the required details, including a valid email address.
Confirm your email to activate the account.
3. Submit Itikaf Application:
Log in to your account.
Navigate to the Itikaf system (نظام الإعتكاف).
Read and accept the terms and conditions.
Attach a copy of your identity document (Iqama or passport).
Submit the application and note the application number for future reference.
Eligibility Criteria:
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Identification: Possession of a valid Iqama (residency permit) or passport.
Health Status: Applicants must be vaccinated against COVID-19, as vaccination is mandatory for Itikaf permits.
Designated Itikaf Areas:
Masjid al-Haram (Makkah): The basement area of the King Fahd expansion is allocated for Itikaf participants.
Masjid an-Nabawi (Madinah): The roof of the mosque is designated for those observing Itikaf.
Guidelines for Itikaf Observers:
Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure the mosque remains clean at all times.
Minimize Disturbance: Avoid loud conversations and activities that may disturb other worshippers.
Limit Personal Belongings: Bring only essential items, such as a prayer rug, pillow, light bed sheets, and two sets of Ihram clothing.
Stay in Designated Areas: Do not occupy areas outside the allocated Itikaf zones.
Avoid Drying Clothes in Public Spaces: Refrain from hanging clothes on corridors or pillars.
Be Mindful During Night Prayers: Avoid sleeping in prayer areas during Tahajjud prayers.
Health Precautions: Carry necessary medications for common ailments like infections, flu, and fever.
Food Arrangements: Food is available during Suhoor and Iftar outside the mosque; bringing food storage is unnecessary.
Financial Preparedness: Carry sufficient cash for personal expenses, as shops outside the mosque may not accept electronic payments.
Personal Hygiene: Keep personal hygiene items, such as tissues and miswak, handy.
Timely Arrival: Arrive at the mosque at least one day before the start of Itikaf to familiarize yourself with the guidelines and surroundings.
Important Dates:
Registration Start Date: March 5, 2025 (5th Ramadan 1446 AH) at 11:00 AM.
Itikaf Period: Begins on the 20th of Ramadan and continues until the end of the month.
Please note that registration will close once the allocated slots are filled. Applicants are advised to register promptly to secure their place for Itikaf in the Two Holy Mosques.
