Moi! = Hi In this post, I want to promote local Finnish events in Northern Finland, that are a bit special and that everyone can participate in if they want to.
1. NUTS KARHUNKIERROS is a trail running event in Karhunkierros. You need to train a lot for this and preferably do it with a trained personal trainer unless you are an athlete yourself. It is held once a year, always in late May, and you must register for the event in advance. I have never participated myself, although my sport in childhood and youth was competitive orienteering. You can find more information at the link: nutskarhunkierros.fi/en/
2. The next DOWNHILL SWIMMING event in Oulankariver, Kuusamo Finland will be in July 2026! Oulankariver is part of the Karhunkierros hiking trail and it is in the Oulanka National Park. Our current president, Alexander Stubb, also participated in this event in the summer of 2024. It's good for you to practice swimming and you should have a wetsuit on and a swimming buddy. I could imagine taking part in this with my son someday because he's a better swimmer than me. You can find more information at the link: downhillswim.fi/home/
3. The third is an interesting way to relax on the river; RIVER FLOATING. You can do this both in summer and winter and day and night times. A wetsuit floats, warms, protects and keeps you from getting wet. Quite expensive, but definitely a memorable experience that can be bought as a gift, for example. You can find more information at the link: www.ruka.fi/en/experiences/water-activities/river-…
4. Fourth, I want to promote the WATER EXPERIENCE CENTER in Vuokatti, Sotkamo Finland. It is a fun water park where you can try SUP boards, Sauna raft, Wake board and swim in the summer. My children have visited there many times. You can find more information at the link: www.govuokatti.fi/en/water-experience-center/
My photos are from Pieni Karhunkierros, which is a popular and relatively easy day hike 12km in Oulanka National Park, Kuusamo FINLAND. You can find all events in the Kuusamo area at this link. tapahtumat.kuusamo.fi/en-FI
Moi! = Hi! = Oi! Bom Caminho you all Camino Portugues dreamers and especially those who have not hiked there yet. I wanted to put some of good videos what I found from YouTube here to that you all could see more about the beautiful city of Porto in Northern Portugal. I have visited in Porto already many times but still I feel now that I have not seen much or all the intresting places I want to visit next time. I could say that in this beautiful city there are so much to see and explore.
PICTURES: The first picture: that my coffee cup what I bought from Santiago de Compostela 2014 when I second time hiked the Camino Portugues trail. Then from Valenca to Santiago de Compostela. Only one week in June. So I mostly hiked in Spain side but I came back to Porto by bus and spend few days in Matosinhos to relax.
The second picture: It is a collage of photos of Oporto from its beautiful Sao Bento train station and the pictures also show the Porto metro. The metro is really easy to use and there are employees there to advise you on buying the right ticket.
The third picture: It is from Porto's Ribeira, which is a popular tourist area and is a good place to start walking the Camino Portugues route after Se Catedral. Following the Douro River on the Senda litoral path.
The fourth picture: I took this photo in 2018 when I walked from Matosinhos to Porto along the coast and crossed the Douro River on a boat that cost 2 euros. I then went to the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The fifth picture: The picture is from the famous The Dom Luis 1 bridge in Porto and you can see the yellow arrows I drew for the senda litoral route!
A sunny and wonderful spring to everyone around the world! Especially to those who doubt that they dare to go hiking alone...yes, you dare when you gather information and ask questions. I dared too, even though it was difficult at first. Please subscribe to my channel and like my videos. It's a pleasure to help!
Merry Christmas to everyone!
I'm not a good baker, but I can make something. This date cake is a favorite for Christmas. I'll write the instructions here. You can make it before Christmas and freeze. This cake will disappear quickly during Christmas...
DATE CAKE 250g date pieces
2 dl of water
200g of butter
2 dl of sugar
2 eggs
4.5 dl wheat flour
1 teaspoon of soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
1 dl of strong coffee drink
Grease and breadcrumb the ring pan. Boil the dates in water to a puree. Cool a little and add the butter in pieces. Add sugar. Allow to cool and add the eggs. Mix soda, baking powder and vanilla sugar into the wheat flour. Add the flour mixture to the dough alternately with the coffee. Pour the dough into the ring pan and bake at 175 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
8 FREE TIPS FOR YOU WHO ARE PLANNING YOUR FIRST HIKE ALONE ON THE CAMINO:
1. Go to YouTube and use search words to search for the Caminos you are interested in. Watch the videos and get some good advice for yourself.
2. Go to Facebook and join the Camino groups there to read and ask questions. Remember that each answer is usually written from the person's own experiences, and thus not all things can be generalized.
3. Find a good map of the Camino you plan to hike. There are also apps that have information. Guidebooks can also be ordered online.
4. Take part in one of the Camino events, where those who have walked the route talk about their experiences. Many who have been hiking before want to tell the experiences from they Caminos. Remember there are no stupid questions...only the weather questions are...!
5. Plan a vacation of at least two weeks off-season, when the prices of plane tickets are cheaper. I recommend making the trip right at the beginning of your longer vacation. I recommend starting with a shorter Camino hike before longer ones...that way you learn things about hiking before a longer trip.
6. Plan your own Camino with the help of a map. Book flights and at least the first accommodations. Also remember the travel insurance.
7. Tell someone close friend about your trip who encourages you and doesn't scare you. You can call or message him/her if something happens.
8. Trust yourself and that you will survive. What happens is meant to be. Jumping out of your comfort zone into the unknown is never easy. You will return with a richer experience and the memories of the trip will always remain. You might want to make a similar trip again.

SANTIAGO I saw a dream many years ago. I saw a sign and there was text: SANTIAGO. I did not know where was Santiago so I looked from the world map first and find that Santiago city is in Chiles capital city. I thought then... odd dream...but I was thinking what that mean to me...or in my life. Well years go by and I was going to Northern Finland again by bus that time...when I had boring time I found magasine from the bus. I started to read it. I found so intresting article there were some Finnish lady who had hiked alone in Camino Frances hiking trail about 800km. Big wow...I thought what a hike she had...so much courage to go there and hike alone so long way.
Well years go by again and then there came on television some serie named Löytöretki. There were six Finnish (they did not know eiths other before) hiking the Camino Frances and there were filming about their hiking. I had that time my younger child he was a baby then. I liked so much that serie that I desited that one day in the future I will hike that trail too. Well I have hiked five times already but not in the Camino Frances yet. Five times on the Camino Portugues trail. Now I know what that dream about Santiago sign was...it was sign to me to go hiking.
YELLOW ARROWS Don Elías Valiña Sampedro is behind the yellow arrows because his most ‘famous’ creation the yellow arrows on the Camino, pointing the way to Santiago de Compostela. Don Elías (1929-1989) was the parish priest in O Cepreiro in Lugo and studied the history of the St James Way pilgrimage to Santiago in-depth, writing many documents, articles, and even a thesis on the Camino de Santiago for the University of Salamanca.
Don Elías was a bit of a visionary and a Camino ‘pioneer’: after years studying the St James Way, he was convinced of the importance of this ancient trail and set himself the challenge of reviving the route we call the Camino Frances. In 1984, he put in motion his mission to rescue, clean, and mark the trails along Camino, starting in Roncesvalles, in the Pyrenees.
He also started painting the iconic yellow arrows to indicate the right way at the various tricky crossroads along the trail.
Legend has it that Don Elías drove across the whole north of Spain on his Citroën GS packed with yellow paint, painting arrows leading to Santiago.
He also promoted the creation of groups and associations to revive and maintain the different stretches of the Camino and traveled to other European universities and conferences to explain the importance of the Camino de Santiago as a space of communication and understanding for people of many nationalities.
Scallop shell and yellow arrows painted on trees, pavement, buildings, etc… mark the route for thousands of pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostela every year.
Moi! = Hi! = Oi! (suomeksi, englanniksi, portugaliksi) I test pack last summer for my 40-liter backpack (Jack Wolfskin). This time I did not go to hiking I just put things together that I could see do I have everithing important to me. I found this much easier after five Camino hikes. I love the warm summer months because I hate freezing. In my opinion, these Camino equipment issues are such that everyone should find their own equipment, e.g. regarding shoes. Along the way you can buy everything you need, but of course not in the smaller villages. For the first Camino hike, I recommend a shorter hike, in which case you also test the contents of your backpack to see what works for you.
Backpack should not weight over 10% of your own weight. So if your weight is 80kg then carry on Camino max 8kg backpack and if your weight is 60kg then max 6kg. Remember that less is more if you are not used to carrying a backpack... You can find many Camino hiking gear lists online.

This is how you can increase the flow of feel-good hormones in your everyday life:
1. Dopamine: Set a goal, climb towards it and stop to celebrate milestones.
2. Serotonin: Surround yourself with people from whom you feel valued and respected. Be proud of your achievements.
3. Oxytocin: Touch, thank and smile. Hug whenever possible and for example a little longer (than maybe you normally would).
4. Endorphins: Move (do exercise) and laugh whenever possible.
Näin voit lisätä hyvän olon hormonien virtaa arjessasi:

Legend has it that Don Elías drove across the whole north of Spain on his Citroën GS packed with yellow paint, painting arrows leading to Santiago. He also promoted the creation of groups and associations to revive and maintain the different stretches of the Camino and traveled to other European universities and conferences to explain the importance of the Camino de Santiago as a space of communication and understanding for people of many nationalities.
Scallop shell and yellow arrows painted on trees, pavement, buildings, etc… mark the route for thousands of pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostela every year.

aviva la vida
Moi! = Hi! = Oi! (suomeksi, englanniksi, portugaliksi)
I test pack last summer for my 40-liter backpack (Jack Wolfskin).
