American Military Network "AMN"

Hey, I’m Matt. Retired Coast Guard Cutterman. Spent most of my life at sea. After hanging up the uniform, I bounced between jobs—electrician, maintenance boss at a razor blade plant, even tried real estate. Civilian life has been a rough transition for me. But I’ve always been a history nerd. Now I tell stories about badass Americans—warfighters, misfits, and forgotten heroes—hoping to keep their legacies alive.

Thanks for being here.

She was starving to death… and they were digging her grave.

In 2011, American aid worker Jessica Buchanan was volunteering with the Danish Refugee Council in Somalia—trying to protect children from landmines—when her convoy was ambushed near Galkayo. Jessica and her colleague, Poul Thisted, were ripped from their vehicle by gunmen and vanished into the desert.

For the next 93 days, she was held by Somali pirates in brutal conditions—no medicine, barely any food, and zero hope. She was suffering from a severe kidney infection. The captors knew it. They didn’t care. In fact, they were already preparing her grave.

The FBI, CIA, and military tracked her for months, trying to find the right window. That window finally came—January 25th, 2012.

In the dead of night, SEAL Team Six parachuted into the desert, made a stealth approach to the target compound, and in under minutes, smoked every last pirate with suppressed weapons. No hostages harmed. Zero American casualties.

Jessica opened her eyes to find a U.S. Navy SEAL gently whispering:
"We’re here to take you home."

This is Patrick “Paddy” Brown — a U.S. Marine and FDNY captain.
While helping save badly burned victims inside the North Tower as evacuation orders were being given, Paddy heard those orders… and refused to leave.

He stayed behind to save others.

This Devil Dog made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 — and his story deserves to be remembered.

This is Kyle Carpenter. He jumped on a grenade—on purpose—to save his fellow Marine. WATCH HERE 👉[https://youtu.be/mPQuVsBzkmA]

His body was shattered. Face blown apart. Lungs collapsed. Heart stopped three times. But this Devil Dog refused to die.

After nearly 40 surgeries and years of rehab, he didn’t just survive—he came back stronger. Earned the Medal of Honor. Ran marathons. Jumped from planes. Spoke to millions.

But none of that compares to what he did in that one second on that rooftop in Helmand Province.

Gary Wetzel was a Huey door gunner when his helicopter was ripped apart by RPGs and slammed into the ground. He was thrown from the wreckage, his left arm torn off, his body shredded by shrapnel, and a bullet in his leg.

Medically, he should have been dead! Instead, Wetzel held off a massive NVA force for nearly 12 hours, refusing to let the enemy overrun the crash site.

This is John Chapman. He was left behind on a frozen Afghan mountaintop — wounded, alone, surrounded by enemy fighters.

Bullets tore into him. Shrapnel ripped through his body. He was knocked unconscious.

And when he came to… he didn’t crawl away.

John Chapman stood up — by himself — and charged straight back into the fight to save his teammates.

Outnumbered. Gravely wounded. Still firing. Still moving. Still protecting the men he refused to abandon.

He held off an entire enemy force alone until his last breath.

That mountain was supposed to take him.
Instead, it became his legacy.

🚨 CHANNEL DIRECTION QUESTION – I NEED YOUR HONEST INPUT 🚨

I’m considering expanding the channel beyond just military stories — still telling real American hero stories, but also first responders, civilians, forgotten legends, and even heroes from around the world.

The mission stays the same:
🔥 Real people. Real courage. Real stories.

But possibly with a new name to match the broader content.

👇 POLL 👇
Should I change the channel name & expand content?

✅ Yes – Broaden it beyond just military
❌ No – Keep American Military Network as is

💬 AND DROP NAME IDEAS IN THE COMMENTS
(Examples: “Badass of the Week,” “Real Heroes Network,” “Legends Among Us,” etc.)

Your feedback actually matters — this channel is built with you.

On September 11th, 2001, evacuation orders were given inside the North Tower. This Devil Dog heard them. And he refused.

Before he was FDNY, Paddy Brown was a two-tour Marine tunnel rat in Vietnam — crawling into pitch-black enemy tunnels most men wouldn’t go near.

On the 44th floor of the North Tower, he stayed with civilians burned too badly to escape on their own. When command ordered him to evacuate, the radio crackled:

“Command Post to Ladder 3, Command Post to Ladder 3, get out of the building!”

Capt. Brown responded:

“This is the officer of Ladder Co. 3. I refuse the order! I am on the 44th floor and we have too many burned people with me. I'm not leaving them!”

Minutes later, the tower collapsed.

🚨 The Ship EXPLODED — 1,500 Miles From Help. 🌊

WATCH MINI-DOCUMENTARY HERE 👉 https://youtu.be/eiqwhgML29U

The M/V Tamar EXPLODED in the middle of the Atlantic.
Fire. Panic. A dying ship drifting more than 1,500 miles from shore.

The Coast Guard couldn’t reach her.
No helicopters. No ships. No second chance.

So the call went out for the one option left.

✈️ Seven U.S. Air Force Pararescue Jumpers
🌊 Open ocean. Monster seas. No landing zone.
🪂 They jumped anyway.

What followed was a brutal fight against time, exhaustion, and the ocean itself — one of the most daring open-water rescues in U.S. military history, captured on REAL footage.

💥 When rescue isn’t supposed to be possible… these men go anyway.

46 YEARS AGO TODAY — On a cold, black night, when the ship was struck and began to sink, he did exactly what he was trained to do.

▶️ WATCH THE MINI-DOCUMENTARY: 👉 https://youtu.be/NVCIItfEZ1Y

The Coast Guard lost 23 crewmen when USCGC Blackthorn capsized beneath the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

In a general emergency, he had one responsibility: hand out lifejackets.

As the vessel went down, he dragged injured shipmates onto the deck, gave what first aid he could, secured lifejackets on wounded men, and helped them into the water. Even as the ship listed hard to port, he kept moving.

When the deck turned nearly vertical, he climbed it and reached the lifejacket locker. With seconds left, he ripped off his belt and tied the heavy lid open—just before the ship rolled and vanished beneath the surface.

In the darkness, 27 men—many badly injured—were left fighting to stay afloat.

Then lifejackets began breaking the surface.
One after another.

Those 27 men lived because the youngest man on the ship never abandoned his post.

He did not make it out himself.

He was Billy Flores, United States Coast Guardsman.

Rest in peace to him—and to the 23 Coasties lost in the Blackthorn tragedy.
Semper Paratus.
