Xander Stok | Project of Love

Project of Love is the Bible in song. Real music - No AI! 100% scripture put to music. 🔥🙌

Project of Love was founded by Dutch singer-songwriter Xander Stok, whose life was radically transformed after a personal encounter with God.

Formerly a rock musician struggling with depression, addiction, and suicidal thoughts, Xander experienced healing after experiencing the love of his 'Papa'.

"In 2021, I heard a voice say: ‘Grab your guitar and sing what you're reading...’ I did, and out came a beautiful song. Three months after that I had a dream in which Jesus told me: "This is our Project of Love. Together we will show the heart of the Father to the world."

Xander now dedicates his life full-time to setting the Bible to music.

Project of Love's music is 100% free of AI. Every song is made in close collaboration with the Holy Spirit.
When it comes to our videos, around 95% of what you see is real footage. Read statement: www.projectoflove.com/faq #noai

A little heads-up beforehand: I made this song, Romans 4, so it can be sung as a personal declaration and proclamation.

So instead of "Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life," I sing "I believe in the God, etc."

Why?
Well, verse 16 tells us this:
"So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are ALL certain to receive it (..) if we have FAITH LIKE Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of ALL who believe."

That means you and me. So sing this song like you mean it, and it will build your faith!

Now, this is probably going to sound silly to some of you, but I wrote this song after somebody died—a family member. She was the black sheep of the family. Quite literally, actually.

I'm talking about one of our sheep, Blackie. But we considered her part of the family, like all our animals.

She died a horrible death; she was attacked by a vicious dog and succumbed to her wounds, unfortunately. The whole thing was a tragic accident, but still, it impacted us deeply.

The timing was suspicious as well. It was a time when we felt like we were under attack. Project of Love was targeted by many trolls and 'haters', my family was attacked (this was right around the time I wrote Psalm 16; readers of my Psalm 16 devotional know what I'm talking about), and the animals in our animal shelter were under attack.

So, Blackie, our sheep, killed by a mad dog, felt pretty prophetic. (Acts 20: 28/29)

Then I read Romans 4. "The God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing", surely He could bring back Blackie.

Two years before that, I had seen God do a miracle. I prayed for a chicken that had died, and she came back. The same with a cat I prayed for.

After all, God created this earth and its creation out of nothing. He created an army with a couple of bones; surely a sheep would not prove to be a problem. I had faith.

We, Janis and I, prayed for three days, but unfortunately, no miracle occurred.

Sure, I felt defeated. But I chose, and still choose, to believe this scripture in spite of my experience. It's not always easy, though. You can hear all these emotions in my voice and in this song.

But if I let my own personal experience dictate my faith, then I basically place my reality, my experience, above what God says, what the Word says. I refuse to do that.

I'm on a journey. And I still have a lot to learn. That means I don't know everything. And that's alright. 'Cause I choose to believe. "Even if there is no reason for hope, I keep hoping." (Rom 4:18 NLT).
Just like Abraham: I believe.

"I dreaded the thought of having to read that book - the Bible."

-

Years ago, somebody gave me a Bible. This was before I had given my life to God.

I had looked at it maybe once or twice, but it didn't speak to me at all. In fact, I wondered why anyone could be interested in a book that seemed so obsolete and boring.

Years later, I had a powerful encounter with God that changed my life completely.

After that, I knew I should be reading the Bible. After all, I'd better read the manual, right? But, man, I dreaded the thought of having to read that book.

So I prayed a very simple prayer: "God, let me read the Bible as a boy's adventure book."

The next day, when I started to read the Bible, it was like I was actually there! As if I had ended up in Narnia through the wardrobe.

The word was alive and powerful to me! A raw hunger filled me, and I devoured the pages. There were times I actually wanted to stuff my mouth with the pages. I was hungry; no, I was famished!

Little did I know that two years later, God would give me Project of Love, the Bible in song.

You see, when Hebrews 4:12 talks about, "The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword..."

It doesn't mean that the print or text is alive.

If it were, you could put a Bible on a table to fend off any evil spirit.

I had a Bible, but the text was "dead" until the Holy Spirit made it "alive" in my heart, turning written print into a personal, moving experience.

Turning logos (the written word) into rhema (a living, active, or "quickened" word).

So, without the Spirit, without His breath on the word, you have nothing—a Bible on a table. Nice to look at, decorative entertainment, sure, but "dead." Certainly not a threat to the enemy.

Everything with God is relational. It's like the dancer in the video dancing with the fire (Holy Spirit). Soul and Spirit.

God is looking for hearts yielded to Him. Without His Spirit, worship becomes empty words and a blunt sword. Mere entertainment. Much like the AI-generated worship music that's flooding the world. It's dead; it has no soul, no Holy Spirit, just entertainment. Exactly the way the devil likes it: a Bible on a table.

God's word is relational. It's a dance between you and His Spirit.🔥

As most of you know, before I release a new series of Scripture songs, I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me in releasing the right scriptures at the right time.

I can't claim I get it right every time, but the many testimonies from our listeners prove we're on the right track. 😉

Well, ever since the start of 2026, I've been led by the Spirit to write songs with scriptures dealing with these three themes: faith, don't be afraid, and give Me your burdens.

Just look at the recent songs: "Eyes on Jesus," "Faith," "Martha," "Don't Be Afraid," etc. And today is no different: Psalm 55 - "Wings Like a Dove."

It's about David; he's trapped and sees no way out. He's so fearful that he actually says, "I can't stop shaking" (Verse 5, NLT).

Tell me, how scared would you have to be to say, "I can't stop shaking"?

But times haven't changed that much; take a look around. This world is on its last legs.

And maybe we, like David, sigh: "I want to get away and leave it all behind." Actually, David was too much of an artist to say it like that; he said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away, far away."

You know, before I gave my life to God, I battled with severe depression for well over 20 years. And like so many others, I started to self-medicate—numb the pain, the anxiety, the despair. Enter addictions. So I went from bad to worse. In the end, I dreamed of death, taking my own life. When I was completely trapped, like David, I turned to God, not knowing if He really existed or cared.

Well, He did, and He does. 😉 He stepped in for me, freed me from depression, and showed me a different life—a life with Him. Everything changed. Together with the Holy Spirit, I took on all my addictions, and within a year or so, I was completely clean and free from all that stuff.

BUT, here comes the takeaway: the Holy Spirit taught me that if I let go of His hand, I would be back where I once was in no time. I was not bulletproof.

So, how does this translate to everyday life?

Well, pretty much how David ends this Psalm: give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you.

Your fears and burdens are not yours to keep. Each day, you give them to Jesus once again.

You get enough grace for one day. You want to know why? So you'll start every day with God anew. Your sanity and peace of mind depend on Him and your relationship with Him.

THAT'S the way to overcome depression, anxiety, worries, and fear. Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. ❤️

Do you know why there are so many "fear nots," "don't be afraids," and "don't worrys" in the Bible?

It's because God knows we're a forgetful bunch. We need to be reminded of these things every single day.

David, Moses, Joshua, Peter, Paul—the list goes on. They all needed the reminder to not be afraid. And Jesus added, "I'm with you, always."

But since we're a forgetful bunch and often set in our ways, God, in His kindness, thought of something else.

He arranged for nature to mimic all God's reminders (especially useful for people who don't like to read and therefore miss all these much-needed Biblical encouragements.😉)

We just have to take our daily shot of nature to be reminded that we don't have to be afraid, we don't have to worry, that God "carries us as a Father carries His child" (Deut 1:31).

He even made sure you don't have to take a plane to see it.

Live in Australia? He made kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and wombats just to remind you: He carries you as a Father (or Mother, for that matter).

Live in Africa or the Amazon? You've got your gorillas, lions, and tigers to remind you.

More of an (under)water person? God's got you covered: seahorse fathers carry eggs in a pouch until they hatch. Swan mothers tuck their babies under their wings.

You say you're allergic to cats or don't fancy a trip to the zoo? No worries; Jesus thought of you when He said, "Look at the birds."

Look out your window. I mean really LOOK. I guarantee you can't stay anxious or stressed out when you're intently looking at birds. Butterflies will do the job as well.

Or if you, like me, love chickens, look at the chickens. Ever watched chickens take a sand bath? Or drink water? Or preen themselves? Man, if that doesn't calm you down, then you better take a chill pill. ;)

All this to say that God thought of you when He made all this because He knows that sometimes it's hard to have a relationship with an invisible God. That's why He made Himself visible in nature.

So He could remind you when you feel stressed out or anxious: don't be afraid; I'm with you, always. ❤️
