Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16 December every year in India to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Vijay Diwas reminds us of the courage of our armed forces and their dedication to protecting our nation.
Historical Significance:
1. Surrender of Pakistani Forces: On 16 December 1971, the Pakistani Army, led by General A.A.K. Niazi, surrendered unconditionally to the Indian Armed Forces and the Mukti Bahini (Bangladeshi liberation forces). Over 93,000 Pakistani troops were taken as prisoners of war, marking one of the largest military surrenders since World War II.
2. Birth of Bangladesh: This victory ended the genocidal conflict in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and facilitated the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent nation.
3. Decisive Indian Role: The war showcased India’s strategic military planning, led by figures like Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and highlighted India’s role in humanitarian intervention against atrocities in East Pakistan.
This day celebrates not just a military triumph but the triumph of justice, freedom, and humanity. Let’s remember their sacrifices and take pride in this historic moment.

We all have been through that phase at some point where we don’t know the difference between a lawyer and an advocate.
I vividly remember the time when I was supposed to decide to pursue law. Being the first lawyer in my family, I was completely new to this field. It was indeed a difficult decision. My father clearly warned me that it wouldn’t be an easy path and said “Just go for b.com and pursue CA or CS, it will also help me in my business.”
Now, whenever I am stuck and feel like giving up, I immediately remember my response to my father: “Easy to kuch bhi nahi hoga, CA or CS toh sab kar rahe hain family mein, aapki beti standout kaise karegi!!”
And those words have stayed with me, motivating me every single day to push myself harder, be different and carve my path.
With many ups and downs and multiple experiments, I’ve figured out what truly excites me and can give me an “Aha” moment!
With this, I wish all the advocates out there, a very Happy Advocates Day!
Stay tuned, launching something exciting today!! 😇

Australia has passed a groundbreaking law making it illegal for children under 16 to have social media accounts on platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, X, and Reddit. This is the first law of its kind in the world! ❌
The Bill was passed in the Senate with 34 votes in favor and 19 against, and the House of Representatives strongly supported it with 102 votes to 13.
‼️ What does the law say?
➡️ Social media companies could face fines of up to AUD 50 million (£26 million) if they allow children under 16 to create accounts.
➡️ To protect privacy, platforms are prohibited from requiring government-issued IDs like passports or driver’s licenses or using digital identification via government systems.
➡️ Companies have one year to figure out how to enforce these rules before penalties are enforced.
How is it different from other countries?
Countries like France and some U.S. states only require parental consent for minors to access social media. Australia’s ban, however, is absolute, with no exceptions for those under 16.
‼️ What about India?
Do you think India should introduce similar law? Or would it be too difficult to enforce such a law in a country as large and diverse as ours?

The Supreme Court first established the doctrine of basic structure in the 1973 in the case of Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala and in the case of S.R. Bommai v. Union of India (1994), it was held that secularism is part of the basic structure of the Constitution.

Recently, the Karnataka government has decided to ban hookah bars and also considering raising the minimum age for purchasing tobacco products (cigarettes) from 18 to 21 years by amending the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in the upcoming winter session of the State legislature.
The purpose of bringing the law is to check the use of tobacco in various forms and prevent diseases caused by the use of tobacco products. As per available data, an hour's average of hookah includes 20-200 puffs, delivering 50 litres of smoke containing, hazardous and carcinogenic chemicals. The smoking of hookah increases health risks including exposure to toxic chemicals that are not filtered out by the water, and also the risk of infectious diseases like tuberculosis resulting from sharing a hookah.
The decision is intended to discourage the consumption of tobacco products by the youth and ensure they have a healthy future.
As per the Centres for Disease Control in the US, the tobacco in a hookah pipe is no less toxic than in a cigarette.
According to the American Lung Association website, at least 82 toxic chemicals and carcinogens have been identified in hookah smoke. The combustion of charcoal used to heat hookah tobacco may pose additional health risks since this combustion process produces dangerous substances such as carbon monoxide, metals, and other chemicals. It is harmful to health as one hour of hookah is equivalent to consuming 100 cigarettes in terms of nicotine deposits.
Besides this, States like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Punjab have taken steps to ban hookah bars.
According to the COPTA, restaurants or any kind of bars can only operate if they provide a designated smoking area. The legislation mandates that any restaurant with a seating capacity exceeding 30 must allocate a designated smoking zone to mitigate passive smoking. Under Section 6 (B) of the COPTA, tobacco production or sale is prohibited within 100 yards of any educational institution.
