Quick update. Power went out again today (6/21/26). This time, it lasted 5 hours rather than about four (from around 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM). It was also raining this time, but it wasn't anything like last time. There wasn't a thunderstorm, heavy rain, or strong winds. The power went out because a tree branch, which was clearly rotting, fell on a power line. I think the tree simply had enough. This is the second time this month. Unlike last time, I was using my computer, which turned itself back on several times as the power initially went on and off within the span of a few seconds. My basement's sump pump is going off constantly. I never heard the water-powered backup go off, so it makes me wonder if it actually works or not. I don't know much about sump pumps or plumbing. Just glad that my basement avoided flooding once again. The creeks are rapid from the recent rainfall, and I noticed standing water in the cornfields and some people's yards as I was driving around while the power was out, because I didn't have much better to do.
As for videos go, I plan to start recording another video as soon as I believe everything is stable, including my electricity and internet. I was definitely shaken up by this happening a second time. After all, power outages aren't common for my area, even during severe weather, so the fact that this happened twice in same month gives me some anxiety. Before the June 10th outage, the last time my power went out was in mid July 2024.
I'm just going to relax and calm myself down. It's been a long day, but I've made it through. The last power outage knocked me out of my uploading groove, which I haven't quite mentally recovered from. Once I get knocked out of my groove, it is very hard to get back into the swing of things. This happened earlier in the year due to college starting back up. I uploaded two videos in January, each a week apart from each other. College responsibilities quickly piled up, so I ended up making nothing in February, March, and April, even when I did have free time. It is possible that I might not upload anything on any of my channels until late July or even August. I know how I am at this point.
Let's just hope that this doesn't happen again. However, some of these trees need to be trimmed (especially the ones along county roads because wow). It's a miracle that my power has only gone out twice this year. Let's not jinx it though. If you're a tree reading this, please stay healthy and stuff.
Late Wednesday night (6/10/26), the power went out. I got a ton of rain that night, but thankfully the basement didn't flood. It was enough rain to completely wreck my setup, as well as the rest of the basement. Luckily, we have a water-powered backup sump pump, which we only installed a little over 5 years ago, and the power was only off for about 4 hours, so the basement remained dry. If we still had the old sump pump, the basement would have flooded for sure.
Yesterday (6/11/26) felt like a surreal dream, with the power being out at midnight, a small hailstorm in the afternoon, and several significant tornadoes in the midwest during the evening. I also got to see mammatus clouds as the sun was setting. It was so yellow outside.
However, things have quieted down today (6/12/26). Some things haven't been the same since the power turned back on, including my internet. It's just slightly slower than usual. There's some weird quirks that I need to iron out, but I should be able to get back on track shortly. I'm still left in shock about how close my basement came to flooding though.
I made a video about the Those Who Remain Christmas Event back in December 2025. However, I've been considering putting 2025 in the title. So it would look something like this:
going into the christmas 2025 event blind (those who remain)
However, that just seems off. Plus, if there even is a Christmas Event this year, anyone stumbling upon the video will see that it is from one year ago. But I'd like the hear your thoughts, because I'm conflicted. Leaning on just keeping it the same though.
some creators who haven't uploaded for a long time have made videos this year, including creators i never expected to return. really eating good this year :D
i was originally going to make a channel update video, but i decided against it. it would ultimately be a waste of time for me to make when i could be making something else. plus, i don't think anyone who is still around would care. however, i do want to get some thoughts out about the future of this channel to anyone interested. this is a giant text wall so bear with me. also, sorry in advance if this is poorly written. writing this while a bit tired.
although i do have the goal of uploading just a bit more this year than the previous, this channel isn't my main focus on youtube. i no longer take this channel seriously and haven't since 2020. i don't think that i will ever truly be "back." i don't have the interest in roblox that i once did. i've already soft quit roblox. i haven't quit it outright but i rarely play it anymore. the recent updates don't help at all. i think a lot of long time roblox players feel the same way as me. unfortunately, i don't see the platform ever getting better. the type of random obscure games made just for the fun of it that i have played on this channel in the past aren't going to be playable much longer. and there are so many more issues than that. that's just the way that it affects this channel.
i could always just pivot to being a general gaming channel or some video essayist or what not (is it clear that i don't watch many modern gaming channels at all?), but i don't play that many video games anymore. i simply would rather do other things. i was always a casual gamer anyways. i started out making gaming videos back in 2015 due to their low barrier to entry. i kept at it, learning many skills along the way, but i think they have served their purpose. i'm not implying that i am quitting this channel anytime soon. this will always be my gaming channel. if i decide that i want to record myself playing a game for old time's sake, then i will. i could easily see this channel lasting 10+ years. however, it wouldn't make sense for me to go back to how things were back in 2018–2020. it wasn't sustainable. there is a reason why i burnt out in july 2020. it is especially not sustainable with my level of interest in gaming and my chronic health issues, which make it difficult to find time to record.
as for how this will affect the channel, things will remain more or less the same as they've been for the past couple of years: occasional gameplay videos once in a blue moon, with increased periods of activity from time to time when i am feeling in the mood for it, just like what's been happening these past two or so weeks. however, this is not the norm. maybe there will be fewer roblox videos in the mix as time goes on. perhaps in 2030, less than half of the videos i still make would be on roblox. don't know at this time. this channel won't just become a place where i upload unedited gaming videos. i'll put the same level of care into the videos as i do now. maybe even more so if i decide to experiment with something other than gameplay videos stuck in the late 2010s.
so what am i going to do on youtube if this is no longer my main focus on youtube? my plan going forward is focus on one of my other channels, BillyTheOstrich. it has never received the attention that it deserves. despite being created in november 2017, it only has 39 videos. i believe this channel has a lot more potential in multiple ways. it is very flexible and has a bright future. i deliberately decided from its very beginning that it would never have a niche. it's probably always going to remain an obscure channel, so analytically, it probably doesn't have a bright future. however, creatively, it certainly does. i always have ideas for the channel. are all of them good? probably not.
however, things have always gotten in the way of video creation. this channel, cactuscarrot, is a small factor. gaming videos are easy to make and require very few steps, and these are steps that i've done hundreds of times before. with BillyTheOstrich being nicheless, this means that each video takes different steps to make. some may require more research. some may be drawing heavy. i want to make these videos so badly, but just getting started on them is so difficult. actually working on the videos is quite fun once i get into the flow of things, but getting into the flow of things is so difficult. life factors like college drain my time, but even more so, my energy, which makes doing even simple tasks i need to do in life difficult. by default, i choose cheap options. watching videos on youtube is easier than writing out this community post which is easier than making a gaming video which is so much easier than making a BillyTheOstrich video. i have not found a solution to this problem. however, i do want to remove the mental choice of making a gaming video, which usually gives short term satisfaction, instead of working on something that gives long lasting satisfaction.
so that's my plan: make BillyTheOstrich my main channel, no contest. no more "two main/primary channels." i still have the goal of making ten videos on this channel during the summer, but i'll be focusing on BillyTheOstrich primarily. that will just a side goal. as for what i'll be working on for that channel, i don't want to say. i know that talking about the thing rather than doing the thing often results in me not doing the thing. as for my other channels (wyomus, roadings, armchair ostrich), just more of the same. i haven't been focusing on them at all and that will continue. focusing on too many channels has only caused me trouble. for channels that are pretty much inactive at this point (tvc47, purelysatire), same deal. i'll still check in to see if i received any comments every few months, and there could possibly be some one off video on tvc47 (might finish off a series i started or celebrate anniversaries), but besides that, these channels are just collecting dust at this point. that will not happen to cactuscarrot.
so as things stand: BillyTheOstrich (primary - main focus), cactuscarrot (secondary - same level of quality as now but decreased focus), wyomus, roadings, armchair ostrich (tertiary - if i make something, i make something), tvc47, purelysatire (inactive - checking comments, rare videos).
thanks for reading this. this has been a lot (it's over 1,000 words). if you didn't read all that, just know that things will stay pretty much the same as they have been these past few years. this channel just isn't my main focus on youtube anymore. maybe there'll be more non-roblox videos over the coming years.
my plan for this summer is to reserve some time in my day for creative activities like video making, rather than getting distracted with other stuff. basically, i want to balance my consumption with my creation. this will hopefully lead to me making more videos on this channel (as well as my other channels). i've already started doing this.
i plan to release another video later today (june 1st). it's already done. just needs a thumbnail, which i couldn't be bothered with tonight. this would be the third week in a row that i put out a video on this channel, which hasn't happened since may 2021 (however, i have uploaded multiple videos in closer proximity more recently, but still). i guess my goal for this summer is make 10 more videos after my latest one. that would mean that videos from 2023 would no longer show up when i am viewing my 30 most recent videos in youtube studio. there's one video that i made at the tail end of my freshman year of college that is still in my top 30... until today that is. hahaha!
so yeah, that's my plan. not necessarily "make more videos" but focus on creation, stop engaging with distractions. balance consumption with creation, and maybe going outside, which will likely result in more videos anyways. not frequent videos, but nothing like 2025. once I upload today's video, 2026 will have as many videos under its belt as 2025. that's how little i uploaded. 5 times. 8 videos total across all of my channels in 2025, which i will also beat today.
not going to add an image to this post, as i think that my posts with images show up in the shorts feed or something (i don't use shorts). these posts aren't meant for a wider audience, especially random shorts viewers.
new video coming out later today. i already have it completed. it just needs a thumbnail, but i'll work on it first thing when i wake up. it's 3:25 am. i haven't been up this late in a while (ever since i got my sleep schedule fixed anyways). this video just took awhile. it's around 16 minutes, so that's going to take a bit to edit.
below are two screenshots that could turn into thumbnails. honestly didn't have good thumbnail material in this video.

Do you think Roblox has already reached its peak popularity?
Couldn't add more than four choices. I swear that you could add six at one point. Anyways, comment below if these choices don't suffice.

i don't know how roblox keeps doing it. we are only 139 days into 2026, and they keep tripping over themselves with every change.
