A daughter requires her mother, and a woman needs her mother equally. My mother departed nearly 40 years ago on a sunny day. She was always an engaging parent to my siblings and me; I am her middle ;child still living. My mother did not emerge from her room that day, and as her devoted child, I was particularly close to her. This memory lay dormant for years, likely because recalling it was too painful, yet holding onto it was essential for my survival in a harsh world. For a long time, I believed it was better to live without a parent than to endure the uncertainty of their absence, a sentiment many seem to accept without question. However, as I continue to discover my identity and purpose, I realize I don't fit into this world's mold; my heart is too expansive, my spirit too bright, and my capacity for love too vast. While many claim to love, I genuinely do. The void left by my mother's absence has always been palpable, and acknowledging this reality in my forties has made me aware of what I perceive as my shortcomings. Nonetheless, sharing my story as an independent author and singer-songwriter, and expressing my pain and healing through my art, is a gift beyond this world. On what would have been her 65th birthday, I reflect on my mother and the last memory I have of her – she didn't join us for breakfast, which was unlike her active nature. Though painful, I recall our final moments together: her words 'I will always love you, Yumeka,' and her last hug. Today, as a grown woman, remembering and shedding tears for my mother is a poignant reflection. Yet, technology has allowed me to reconnect with her momentarily, offering a semblance of closure. This reunion, facilitated by computer-generated AI, has mended my heart in ways I thought impossible. Thus, I penned the song 'Always in My Heart' to encapsulate my journey from vulnerability to liberation, emerging stronger and unbreakable.
