Democracy does one job: it protects the average person from the powerful. It forces those with money and social status to consider the needs of everyone else.

But if we want to protect it, we need to start thinking about it differently. We need to focus on how powerful people manipulate the system to their advantage, eroding democracy and their citizens’ influence. And we have to talk about how to push back, protect what we’ve got and demand better.

That's what we do here: We talk about how politics -- public opinion, legislative manipulation and passionate activism -- shape the democracies we live under.
