Charlotte Cripps is, of course, entirely entitled to her opinion. Columnists exist to offer perspective, provoke debate, and sometimes challenge public figures. That is fair.

But her latest article about Prince William’s comments on the school run felt deeply unfair—not because she disagreed with him, but because it appeared to completely misrepresent the context of what was actually said.

If anyone actually listened to Prince William’s Heart Radio interview in full, they would know the interview was not some carefully staged attempt to convince the public that he is “just like us.” The interview was centred around the fantastic work being done in the Isles of Scilly, with a light-hearted parenting anecdote naturally arising in conversation.

That is very different from launching a deliberate PR campaign built around “relatability.”

Prince William did what many parents do—he shared a funny moment about family life. Sticky jam fingerprints in the car. Children arguing over music. Forgetting school items. Morning chaos.

And somehow, that became evidence of “cosplay desperation”?

Why?

Because his life is different?

Of course it is.

He is the Prince of Wales. No one is pretending otherwise.

But having a different life circumstance does not suddenly mean ordinary family experiences cease to exist. Children do not become perfectly behaved because their father is royal. Morning routines do not magically become stress-free because security exists.

What particularly jarred was the leap into assumptions William never made.

He did not mention valets cleaning cars.

He did not compare himself to struggling families.

He did not suggest that his challenges are equivalent to those facing parents dealing with childcare costs, commuting pressures, or the cost-of-living crisis.

Those comparisons were inserted into the article—not by him.

As someone from a completely normal background myself, I do not feel remotely offended by Prince William describing a chaotic school run. Why would I? I understand perfectly well that different families live differently.

That is simply life.

And the idea that private schooling automatically makes a family somehow detached from normal parenting experiences is also unhelpful. Plenty of families make sacrifices for private education, and attending a fee-paying school does not erase the universal realities of raising children.

The Prince and Princess of Wales may live an extraordinary life in many respects, but at the heart of it they are still parents raising three children.

Not every passing comment from a public figure needs to be interpreted as some cynical attempt at manufactured relatability.

Sometimes a jam sandwich is just a jam sandwich.

Is it just me, or are we seeing a disturbing rise in roleplay accounts and people pretending to be #PrinceGeorge, #PrincessCharlotte, and #PrinceLouis?

What is deeply concerning is the use of AI and deepfake technology to create inappropriate edits and fake “thirst trap” style content involving children. Who on earth thinks this is acceptable?

Yes, these children are part of a public family, but they are not content. They are minors. They do not exist for strangers to impersonate, exploit, or use their identities ( pretending to be them) for follows, engagement, money, or online clout.

If you admire the Royal Family, be a fan, if you want to report on them and their Public lives, do Royal Journalism. But pretending to be young children online for attention is disturbing.

These are real children, real individuals, not images to be fed into AI tools for fake content creation. The normalisation of this behaviour is genuinely alarming.

And beyond being inappropriate, there are real safeguarding concerns. Prince George is nearly 13. His peers are of the age where many will be online, using TikTok or Instagram. Imagine being a child and seeing strangers pretending to be you online, or your friends stumbling across that content. It’s bizarre, invasive, and potentially deeply confusing.

Worse, fake accounts impersonating minors can create very real safety risks around online grooming, manipulation, and exploitation. This is one of the darker sides of AI that many people seem far too willing to ignore.

These are children. Protect them like children. Stop using George, Charlotte and Louis as content! It's not on anymore, and I know you lovely lot will agree! ❤️☝️

Again I will plug my petition and let's get this into parliament: www.change.org/p/protect-real-people-stop-the-spre…

I think we have all had enough of AI Deepfakes using children and public figures ( sometimes ordinary people) and stealing their Identities. Over 1000 Deepfakes are reportedly created per day of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. It's shocking and shameful.

The UK government has now got new legislation banning the use of indecent images that were created on platforms like Grok, which was known for the undressing scandal, which unfortunately the Princess of Wales was a victim of.

But I think the UK government can do more. I think it's time to ban the generation of real people. It should also be mandatory for ALL users to say it's AI and if they use deepfaking it can't be of real people or minors.

In my opinion unless your using AI for research, production, marketing ( thumbnail prototypes etc) or educational purposes, you shouldn't be using AI especially Deepfakes. People are now misusing it and it's so bad!

We need to protect real images, real photography and real people!
