A baby koala, called a joey, is born blind, hairless, and about the size of a jellybean. It crawls into its mother's pouch where it nurses and develops for 6 to 7 months before finally
Early Development & Life Cycle
Birth: At birth, a joey is only about 2 cm long, weighs less than 1 gram, and resembles a pink jellybean.

The Pouch: It relies on its strong sense of smell and touch to crawl unassisted into the mother's pouch, where it attaches to a teat to grow.
Emerging Out: After about 6 to 7 months, the joey is large enough to peep out of the pouch and will begin riding on its mother’s back.
Independence: Joeys stay with their mothers until they are about one year old, learning essential climbing and foraging.

Quick Koala Facts
Diet: While they nurse for the first 6–7 months, they eventually consume eucalyptus leaves.
Frequency: Female koalas usually only produce one joey per year because they dedicate so much time to raising their young.
Lifespan: Koalas can live for up to 10–15 years in the wild, depending on environmental conditions.
