🔬 AIRID is strengthening capacity for vector control research!

👩🏾‍🔬👨🏾‍🔬 Our laboratory team recently completed hands-on training on the Agilent High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system for the chemical analysis of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs).

🧪 The training covered sample preparation, instrument operation, quality control, data analysis, and troubleshooting, enhancing our ability to deliver reliable analytical services for vector control research and innovation.

📊 Accurate chemical analysis is critical for assessing the quality, durability, and performance of malaria vector control products and generating evidence to support policy and product development.

🌍 Strengthening science.
🦟 Advancing malaria control.
🔬 Building African research excellence.

🎓 Investing in future African scientists starts with creating opportunities.

Today, Dr. Corine Ngufor, Executive Director of the African Institute for Research in Infectious Diseases (AIRID), officially presented support funds to the first two beneficiaries of the AIRID AFRICA-WISE Fund — Ms Jannette Koumba Tolno and Ms Nambole Cadja.

👩🏾‍🔬 This initiative was created to support young women pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics across Africa, with this first cohort focused on female students enrolled in public universities in Benin.

💡 Meeting Jannette and Nambole and hearing about their ambitions was a powerful reminder that Africa’s future in science, research, and innovation depends on investing in talented young women today.

🌍 AIRID is proud to support their journey and contribute to building the next generation of African scientific leaders. Congratulations to both recipients! ✨👏🏾

🌍 Seasonal intensification could help ensure malaria vaccines protect children when transmission risk is highest.

📍 Last week, AIRID participated in a stakeholder meeting in Benin where results from a GAVI-funded project on learnings for malaria vaccine delivery were shared with the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) and local stakeholders.

👩🏾‍🔬 The evaluation was led by Dr. Corine Ngufor, Executive Director of AIRID, and implemented through a collaboration between CREC and AIRID, supporting the NMCP to assess a pilot strategy designed to better align malaria vaccine delivery with peak transmission periods.

📊 Findings presented during the meeting showed:

✅ Improved uptake of malaria vaccine doses
✅ Higher vaccine coverage in the intervention area
✅ Positive spillover effects on uptake of other childhood vaccines

💡 A strong example of how implementation research can help countries optimise new malaria tools for greater impact.
