12 months from now, the Jaguar Type 01 is expected to hit Indian roads. This prototype wears a custom livery for the Goodwood Festival Of Speed and we got to see it before its public debut.
Here’s what I can tell you:
* It is very driver focused. Yes, it has a back seat but the seating position, the view out and the performance mean you have to be driving this yourself to enjoy its true purpose.
* The car is HUGE. Over 5 metres long, 3.2 of which are wheelbase. 120mm ground clearance, raise-able to 150mm in select conditions.
* Even with the camo, genuine Jag stance and presence.
* 120kWh NMC battery - 1000+ horsepower - about 1300Nm - dual rear and single front motor. But performance comes in waves, no violence.
* 200kmph felt like 80. And 23-inch rims but good tyre profile for bump absorption. Ride’s surprisingly gentle on the rough sections at the Gaydon test track.
* Tesla-like steering-adjust, button door release, no traditional IRVM, roof mounted camera with a permanent dashboard screen feed, column shifter.
* Defies categories. Which makes it hard to set a direct reference point. Taycan or the new AMG GT 4 door EV seem like the closest parallel but Aston Martin Rapide or Porsche Panamera vibes gone electric seems like a more accurate way to describe it.
* Design will play the biggest role. This will look nothing like anything Indian roads have ever seen. Jaguar’s determined to stay as close to concept as possible. Which means it will polarise.
* ₹2.20-2.50cr price seems likely.
