Some of the most memorable moments on #safari happen when nothing is rushed.

During a scenic #bush walk, we stopped beneath a magnificent old tree overlooking the floodplain. The late afternoon light painted the landscape in gold as we sat quietly, taking in the beauty of Botswana's #wilderness. These are the moments I enjoy sharing most with our guests, not just searching for #wildlife but connecting with the land itself.

In another moment from the #walk, our guests gathered together under the shade, listening, learning, and experiencing the bush at a slower pace. #walkingsafaris allow you to notice the details that are often missed from a vehicle. In these photographs, our guests experienced two very different sides of Botswana in one journey. One moment, we were gliding quietly through the waterways, surrounded by reeds, birds, and the calm beauty of the #Okavango. The next moment, we were on foot, carrying our packs and walking through shallow floodplains together as a team, feeling every step of the wilderness beneath us.

From the First Light of the Kalahari to the Last Golden Glow of the Delta | Guided by San And Nature



There is something special about walking through the African wilderness before the rest of the world wakes up. The silence, the cold morning air, the sound of boots moving slowly through wet grass, and the first sunlight touching the land. These are the moments that remind me why I do what I do.



These photographs were taken during one of our recent wilderness walking safaris here in Botswana. From sunrise over the open landscapes to long hours moving through shallow floodplains and bush country with our guests, every step was real, raw, and unforgettable.

My name is Kane Motswana, and I am a San Professional Safari Guide and Naturalist. For generations, my people have been the whisper on the wind of the Kalahari, the story written in the stars. Recently, that whisper was shared with the world in a way that filled my heart with a deep, resonant pride. Watching “Pole to Pole with Will Smith,” the episode that featured my life,the San people, and our traditions, was a profound moment. Sitting with my own family, seeing our lives reflected on the screen, I saw not just recognition in their eyes, but a rekindling of a flame. We shared our home, Botswana’s magnificent desert, with all our heart. We let the land speak through us. It was brilliant… but it was only a glimpse. Our story, the depth of our connection to this earth, is an epic that deserves its own volume.

My deepest gratitude flows like the ancient underground rivers of the desert to Will Smith, who walked with us as a student, not just a visitor; to the meticulous crews of Nutopia, National Geographic, and AfroScreen; and to our own local champions, especially The Naro San of GrassLand . We together carried our voice with respect.

And we cannot speak of our culture without bowing to the silent, mighty chronicler: the Tsodilo Hills. Those sacred slopes are our library, our church, our ancestral memory carved into stone. They have been the guardian of our ways for millennia, and in their shadow, we remember who we are.

To have been a part of sharing this ancient wisdom is an honour I will carry forever. If you have not seen it, I urge you to watch. Feel the Kalahari’s breath.
