It’s Bourdain Day, the anniversary of the unfortunate death of one of my biggest influences and inspirations! Watching his show and reading his books changed my life and it was in 2014 watching an episode of his show where he visited Dublin my wife and I decided to quit our jobs and just go and live in Dublin and really decided to chase our dreams in life. So here is my video about the life changing impact he had for me! It’s also on my YouTube channel for anyone who wants to watch on a larger screen. #bourdainday

I've got an incredible book to share with you: "Think Like an Artist" by Will Gompertz, It shares some the of the most incredible stories about some of the greatest Creative and Artistic Minds who ever lived and the often very relatable, very human problems they faced... I also share some additional things I found in my own research that were inspired by the book and some opinions on how the book's ideas could impact both us and the world around us!

Enjoy...

I watched an incredible video this morning from ‪@jimkroft‬ that anyone who is an artist or creator should watch - it’s not only stunningly well made, but such a powerful message too!!

Thanks so so much for watching and all the new subscribers I’ve had in the last few weeks.. I've also had a couple of DMs over on instagram and fellow creators I know asking where I am, why I'm not posting! I had promised to make some videos about audio and presenting in response to people’s questions... and had hinted at a couple of other fun things coming, then disappeared...

So a few weeks ago I got a bad case of COVID and it knocked me out, but as I started recovering realised my energy and ability to speak (without a gravelly sore throat) were not coming back very quickly. Then a few days later I did something to my back I was in a lot of pain and have ended up in hospital this week having a number of tests to see what was wrong with me.. was it an infection an injury, they couldn't say.. so I’m in an unusually high amount of continuous pain right now. I’m now on some very strong medication to manage that... more tests incoming.

SO, if and when the new meds help me regain some energy I hope to be back on camera in a week or two, but have to be careful and not push it myself until I know WHY I'm having unbearable bouts of back pain and I'm a little less foggy headed too. (I also have client work to finish thats now a bit overdue 🤦🏼‍♂️) But yeah thats where I've been.

It's June 25th and today is "Bourdain Day" the anniversary of what would have been Anthony Bourdain's 68th Birthday. About a year ago I made this video as a tribute to him and how he influenced my life. It's gone on to be one the videos I've been contacted he most about by people who share that love of his work and whose lives were made better by it. Which absolutely blows my mind... I loved his work and loved the ethos he had, and his humour but had no other connection to him than that. I'm so grateful for the life experiences and weird connections like that just being inspired by him have brought me and indeed others I've spoken to.

So every June 25th, I take a day to slow down disconnect from the sheer craziness that is the world we live in, enjoy life, connect with friends, eat or make good food and try and plan some kind of adventure. It's not just to honour him, though that is a great catalyst and excuse to think big and plan to go places. It is also to learn from what did happen to him and make sure the mental health of my friends, family and those around me is ok too.

With that in mind, I would encourage others to do the same, check-in on someone you've not spoken to in a while, make sure anyone vulnerable around you is ok AND of course maybe invite them to be part of any grand life-affirming adventures you might be planning too.
