PMP is not for me. I'm too experienced for PMP.
I've heard this line from people who then failed the exam.
15+ years of experience.
50+ projects delivered.
Every right to be confident.
And then: Below Target.
Because here's what experience doesn't prepare you for:
The exam tests you on all the different scenarios.
In the real world, sometimes you skip the formal change request.
Sometimes you escalate informally.
Sometimes you make a call that works but wouldn't be in any framework.
PMI doesn't want you to take these shortcuts.
It wants you to think the way a servant leader with the right frameworks would think.
That's a different mode.
The experienced PMs who pass first attempt?
They're humble enough to learn that mode.
They don't try to override the exam with their experience.
They respect that the exam is testing something specific.
And they prepare for that specific thing.
Experience is valuable. Ego is expensive.

Everyone is arguing about how much the PMP exam is changing on July 9th.
20% or 30% or 80%. Doesn't matter.
I think they are missing the bigger point.
Let me ask you a simple question.
When was the first time you thought about getting your
PMP certification?
Was it 1 year ago?
How long have you been telling yourself:
"I'll start next month."
"I'll do it when work slows down."
"I'll do it after this project."
"I'll do it when life gets less busy."
Deep down, you already know the truth.
The biggest obstacle was never the PMP exam.
It was procrastination.
Human beings naturally delay important things when there is no deadline.
That is exactly why deadlines exist.
So when I tell students to take the PMP exam before July 9th,
it is not because I want to scare them.
It is because I don't want them to linger for another year.
Or another two years.
Or another five years.
I want them to finally put a date on the calendar.
Commit. Study. Pass.
And move on with their lives.
What's wrong with that?
What's wrong with earning the certification sooner?
What's wrong with becoming eligible for better opportunities sooner?
What's wrong with getting the salary increase, promotion, confidence, and recognition earlier in your career?
Nothing.
Whether the new exam is easier, harder,
or exactly the same is not even the main issue.
The main issue is this:
A deadline creates action.
And action changes lives.
