Another AQUA Masters world record for Kelly Parker Palace!

The 64-year-old broke her second world record of the year by going a 10:47.99 in the 65-69 800 LCM freestyle after breaking the SCM record in the same event earlier in the year. (Note: Swimmers’ age for meters meets is determined by their age on Dec. 31 of the year.)

The 2026 Winter Masters Distance Invitational in Oro Valley, Arizona, where she set the record is one of her favorite meets.

“As a distance swimmer, it was incredibly special to compete in a meet built entirely around the longer races,” she says. “The SaddleBrooke Winter Masters Distance Invitational truly lets distance swimmers have their day. Breaking the world record was exciting, but what made the weekend unforgettable was the beautiful Arizona setting, the camaraderie among swimmers who love the distance events, and the dedicated meet organizers and volunteers. It’s a one-of-a-kind event.”

Happy belated birthday to 101-year-old swimmer Betty Morris! 🥳

She recently shared her 4️⃣ longevity tips with Today.com:

1️⃣Keep moving
Morris has been swimming for over 40 years: “The water doesn’t discriminate. In the pool, you can do anything you want to.”

2️⃣Find joy in community
Morris loves chatting with her fellow swimmers on deck: “She goes up to everyone in the pool to ask their name if she doesn’t know them, and then she really remembers,” Morris’ daughter says.

3️⃣Keep a positive attitude
Morris says one of her biggest life philosophies is simple: Stay grateful.

4️⃣Treat yourself
Morris isn’t strict on her diet. Her guilty pleasure: “I love peanut butter fudge!”

Our teammates make swimming so much more fun!

Ally Howe, 30, won a national championship in the 100 butterfly at Spring Nationals going a 54.33, just ahead of two of her teammates who were in the lanes next to her. After swimming at Stanford, she moved across the country to New York City. There, she met the friends who she loves swimming with every day.

"I came out of college knowing that I love swimming," Ally says. "I thought maybe 40 years down the road that swimming would be a part of my life. But these are the first friends I made post-college. It's fun that we share the love of New York and swimming. It's so much fun to swim with them.”

15,000 yards to celebrate your 75th birthday?!

John McMullen celebrated his 75th birthday the only way a true Masters swimmer knows how: by doing 75 x 100s with his teammates.

But one celebration wasn’t enough!

His son couldn’t make it to the pool on John’s birthday, so John got back into the water and did the set all over again. Yep, that’s a total of 15,000 yards.

Larry Day, 75, is having a RECORD-BREAKING 2026!

He broke 4️⃣ SCM AQUA Masters world records, in the 50 butterfly (31.71), 100 butterfly (1:14.39), 100 IM (1:14.52), and 200 IM (2:50.45), in January and then broke 6️⃣ USMS records, in the 200 backstroke (2:22.98), 200 IM (2:26.39), 400 IM (5:26.07), 100 butterfly (1:01.99), 100 IM (1:05.82), and 100 backstroke (1:05.84), at Spring Nationals earlier this month.

“When I broke the [world] records, I felt grateful to God for the gift of health,” says Day, a member of Sarasota Sharks Masters. ”Later, I reflected on the athletes who set the bar by establishing those records. I know each of them well: Hubie Kerns, Rich Abrahams, Fred Schlicher and Richard Burns. They are outstanding people who have inspired me over the decades. Their records have lasted many years. I improved upon their times by only slight margins. My records will not last nearly as long, but the real benefit of the sport is not records.  The real benefits available to all participants include friendship, quality of life and independence.”

The Yardstick Swimmers have finally reached the moon!

Starting in 2004, a group of nearly 80 swimmers from Madison, New Jersey, has combined to swim about 245,683 miles, enough to travel to the moon and orbit around it. For their efforts, they received a proclamation from their town’s mayor and a video congratulations from three-time Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines.

”My out-of-this-world fellow Yardstick Swimmers are so amazing that I would swim to the moon for them,” Susan Kirk says.

Great work, swimmers! Here’s to the next 22 years of swimming.
