UNRWA is STILL in Gaza.
Year after year, UNRWA mental health teams show up for displaced children across Gaza during Eid al-Adha. Working tirelessly every single day, they give children a chance to step away from trauma and do everything to preserve the fragile magic of childhood wherever possible.
Right now in Gaza, nearly 25,000 children have been orphaned due to ongoing violence. History and tradition remind us that our greatest human responsibility is how we care for the most vulnerable.
This Eid, do not wait. The children in Gaza cannot wait. Your donation through UNRWA USA is a powerful way for Americans to show Palestine refugees that we care.

Right now in Gaza, nearly 25,000 children have been orphaned due to constant attacks. No parents, lacking nutritional food, shelter, safety, and in desperate need of a comforting hand.
Following the collapse of formal systems, these children relied on kinship care or informal support setups that have completely run out of resources.
This Eid Al-Adha, your Udhiya/Qurbani is a way to directly help children who have lost everything. As you reflect on your own blessings, you have the choice to step into networks of care and provide support for an entire year.
This is how your donations can help orphaned children in Gaza:
$600 can support one orphaned or separated child in foster care for a full year.
$6,000 can help support at least 10 children.
$12,000 can help support as many as 20 children
History and tradition remind us that our greatest human achievement is how we care for the most vulnerable.

A story from the shores of Gaza.
Before dawn, fishermen in the Gaza Strip set out to sea as they have long done in search of their livelihood. Today, however, the reality has drastically changed. The sea, once a source of life, has become a space of constant danger—marked by targeting and arrests, even at short distances from the shoreline.
Our UNRWA colleagues in Gaza have reported that over 200 fishermen have been killed since October 2023, while more than 300 others have been injured. About 95% of fishing facilities and assets have been damaged or destroyed, bringing this critical sector that was once a lifeline to a near-total standstill.
Fishermen say they have lost their boats and equipment, forcing many to take on irregular, low-income work just to meet their daily needs amid soaring prices and the destruction of essential tools.
Others describe their daily reality as one of persistent fear and insecurity, where going out to sea has become a risk that may end in not returning to one’s family. Amid this harsh situation, fishermen warn that the livelihoods of hundreds of families are now at risk of complete collapse.
For so many people in Gaza, the sea was once a breath of fresh air, a sense of relief amid life through blockade. Now, the sea holds a different meaning against the backdrop of over two years of what experts call a genocide.

From 1948 to today, what has changed?
In part one of this three-part series, UNRWA USA Vice President of Philanthropy Hani Almadhoun shares his family’s Nakba story and their refusal to repeat the history of displacement today. The Nakba is not only history, it is a lived memory and for so many Palestinian families, it is a somber reminder of history repeating itself over and over again.
To put this into perspective, nine out of ten people in Gaza have been displaced since October 2023, not only once but as many as ten times. This lived trauma of ongoing displacement is still happening today, as you watch this video, as you read these words.
The harsh reality is we can’t undo the intergenerational trauma that millions of Palestine refugees have lived through and continue to carry with them. What we can do is center their voices and share their stories as an act of firm solidarity saying— we won’t stay silent, and we will keep raising our voices..
Take a moment today to listen to Hani’s family history. Make this your act of solidarity today and tune back in next week to hear the rest.
For Hani’s family, for every Palestinian family who has been separated from their home and loved ones, for every Palestine refugee—this is why we do this work. This is why we all must bear witness.

In the summer of 1948, my grandfather left a chicken in the oven as he fled Al Majdal. He believed he would return in a few days.
He never saw his home again.
Hani Almadhoun, Vice President of Philanthropy at UNRWA USA, shares his family’s story of displacement across generations, from Al Majdal to Bait Lahia in northern Gaza, where his parents were once again forced to flee their home, leaving behind belongings with the hope of return. Full video is out Friday, May 22.
For his family, like many others, the Nakba is not a single moment in history, it is an ongoing reality of loss, forced displacement, and separation from home and loved ones.
Through it all, UNRWA has been there, providing education, shelter, healthcare, and dignity to families rebuilding their lives.
UNRWA is still in Gaza and never left.

78 years ago, families locked the doors of homes they believed they would soon return to.
A mother folded house keys into the corner of her dress.
A father carried land deeds in his coat pocket.
Children walked roads they did not understand would become exile.
They left believing absence would be temporary.
But the Nakba did not end in 1948.
It continued in classrooms, where children learned the geography of homes they had never seen.
It continued in Gaza, where families once again carry what they can through streets reduced to dust.
It continued in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, where displacement remains a daily fear.
It continued in Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, where Palestine refugees still live in exile, denied the right to return home.
UNRWA continues to show up and remains on the ground. Through every generation of displacement, UNRWA schools still opened, clinics still treated the sick, and bread was still distributed. Children were still taught their histories and their dignity.
And still, people remember.
They remember the fig tree in the courtyard.
They remember the sound of the sea in Jaffa.
They remember the smell of coffee before dawn in Jerusalem.
They remember because memory, for displaced people, becomes a second homeland.
UNRWA will continue to serve Palestine refugees, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.
On this Nakba commemoration day, UNRWA USA reaffirms its commitment to the inalienable dignity of Palestine refugees, while mobilizing support for the critical humanitarian services they need to survive.
For the Nakba is not only the story of what was lost.
It is also the story of what has refused to disappear.

We’re honored to be joined by Palestinian artist @WaheebNasan and @DJYoonis at this year’s Dallas Gaza 5K—bringing us together to end the day in the community rhythm of dabke.
Waking us up and setting the tone for the day, Dallas-based DJ Yoonis will guide the energy from the start with sets that bring us together—fusing global sounds that connect us from Gaza to Dallas. Known for creating joy, connection, and momentum wherever he performs, DJ Yoonis will lead the soundtrack throughout the event and keep the energy moving.
Closing out the day, Palestinian artist Waheeb Nasan brings a powerful, genre-blending sound rooted in both traditional Arabic influences and contemporary hip hop.
