Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is a noir-style, old-school gangster-inspired series set a year after the Clone Wars. It follows Maul as he attempts to rebuild his syndicate and seemingly forge his own destiny as the Sith Lord.
While it's all connected to the greater Star Wars storyline, this series falls within the world-building that started in the Clone Wars series. The storytelling is not as light as Clone Wars or even Bad Batch, but still written in a way that the family can enjoy.
The art design borrows from the Clone Wars but is adjusted to fit the grittier vibe of the storytelling. The end result is a gorgeous atmosphere of what appears to be painted backdrops and characters while still having CGI'd depth. They play with the dark tones mixed with the glow of the light sabres in a way that turns every still image of a fight scene into a visual masterpiece.
Overall, the series is enjoyable and highly recommended!
