Harold and I are headed t the car dealership. Our vehicle had some recalls (or whatever you call it), so we have to take it in for them to take care of. I brought my needlepoint along with me because I figured we would be sitting for a while, so I would have something to do. Would you like to see an update of my progress?
In yesterday’s video, I showed you Amy’s cut flower garden. She shared this on her personal page last night so I asked if I could share with my friends. She went outside after it rained and got her first cutting from her garden. She is so proud! If this is how beautiful her flowers are when they are first starting to bloom, can you imagine what she will be getting in a few weeks?
Gardening is a lot like life. You do it all in faith. You plant and trust in something that you can’t physically see. Rain and storms may come, but as long as the roots are strong, everything will be ok. The results are out of your control, but suddenly something beautiful appears.
See why I love gardening? Have a wonderful day, friends. I am glad you are here. Remember to be salt and light.
Y’all, I have to tell you about last night. It was our last Mahjong league play night of the season. We said for everyone to wear red, white, and blue in honor of America’s 250th birthday, and we had bbq to eat. We try to do themes around holidays and such. Secretly, though, we planned a surprise 50th birthday party for Amy’s best friend (and my second daughter), Brigitte. I can’t believe we pulled it off, but we did! She was so surprised. I want you to look at this cake. It was every bit as wonderful tasting as it was wonderful looking. A local lady, Freda Hammonds, made it. She is incredible! You give her an idea and she can do it. She did Griffin’s graduation cake, Shawn’s 50th bday cake, my “Adios, Chemo” party cake. She is officially our cake lady, and you can see why. Even the mahjong tiles on the cake were edible! The girls asked her to do an almond/wedding cake type flavor, and she nailed it. We were all so full on BBQ and playing mahjong, and of course I spoke up and said, “Are we gonna cut the cake?” 😂
We also had a raffle for a grand prize for the league. Every time you were there, your name got added to the mix. Y’all - I WON! I was so shocked! I got a $500 gift certificate to a precious store in Dadeville who sells all kinds of Mahjong items. I cannot wait to go shop!
Brigitte and Amy have been very best friends since their first day of kindergarten 45 years ago. I loved getting to celebrate Brigitte, and I have loved my Mahjong group. Our league will take a break over the summer, but we will still have our open play days at the library and my house. Mahjong is so fun!
Good morning, friends! We had a wet Memorial Day here. I canned 7 quarts of pintos, and some squash relish. Shawn and Amy and their family made it home from the beach, and Shawn’s garden has taken off! He has tons of stuff coming in, so be on the lookout for a video soon. We are predicted to get rain every day for the next week, skew will have to maneuver garden stuff around the rain.
May is coming to an end, and we’re rolling right into summer. Tell me what you would like to see this week. Canning videos? Garden content? I haven’t been thrifting in a while, so j suppose it’s about time for some more of that. Amy and I have been working on some Father’s Day ideas, so I will be sharing those soon.
I hope you are doing well and staying dry. I love you all, and I am sure thankful that you are here. Remember to be 🧂& 💡
Y’all - GOD LOVE SHAWN! I don’t know what we would do without him. My Aunt Rosa Lee loved Harold Garrett more than anything in the world, but she used to say, “If it don’t have to do with a ball, Harold can’t do it.” The Good Lord must have heard her and He sent us Shawn. He can do anything. Harold built the new steps for our camper, but the space from the top step to where you stepped in the camper was still so high. We mentioned it to Shawn, and he said, “When I get down there I’ll build a platform.” And he did! And he also saw where we stored extra chairs and things underneath the camper and said, “Let me build some kind of platform to keep them off the ground in case they get wet.” God love him, he can’t just have a vacation without having to work on something. Just next week he and Amy are going to Chris’, and while he’s there he is going to be building a pool house/pergola for them. See why I don’t mind keeping him fed? He’s a gem. I wish everyone had a Shawn, but you sure can’t have ours. ❤️
I didn’t get a picture of us before church this morning because we were hurrying to make early service in all the flooding rain. We definitely needed the rain, though. We’ve gotten around 3 inches since yesterday and this morning. Chris and Bryce went to church with us today before heading back home later. They came up to enjoy the SEC Baseball games, and it was such a blessing getting to spend time with them. I hope you are having a wonderful day today. Please know you are appreciated more than you will ever know. Praying you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead.
What are you doing on this beautiful day? Harold and I are getting things together to head home. It feels like we’ve been gone forever! We have several stops to make on our way home, and I hope to be able to bring you with us through pictures and videos. I want to stop at a local huge farm and buy some fresh green beans so I can go ahead and can those. We also want to stop at the Conecuh Sausage Store to get some meats to take home, as well as some Conecuh dogs to eat on the road. 😉
Yesterday, Amy needed some threads to finish a needlepoint project that she is working on, so she and I went to the LNS (local needlepoint store) here in Gulf Shores. If you are ever vacationing here, please stop in and tell them that Mama Sue sent you. They are the sweetest, and they have anything and everything that you would need for needlepoint and cross stitch.
What are you doing today? What’s the weather like where you are? I believe we will be getting some rain at home. I am ready to check on my garden and see how much it has grown. Tell me, would you like a travel video from us while we’re on the way home?
So many people focus on the negatives of social media…and trust me, there are plenty. But for every rotten potato, there are hundreds more good ones. I love meeting you friends! You always make me smile and I appreciate each of you. Here are just a few friends I’ve met in the last 24 hours. Even if we never meet on this side of Heaven, I hope you know just how thankful I am for you, and how much you mean to me. Look for the good! It’s all around. I promise. ❤️
Ok friends. You know how I love to share gift ideas. Here we are deep in graduation season, and I thought this gift card bouquet that Maddie made for Emma was perfection! This would work for boys or girls, and you can customize to the recipient’s favorite places. All of the family chipped in and bought gift cards that Emma can take with her to college. This is easy, and something that she will use! I think this is a great gift for anyone - not just a graduate. What do you think?
