My People!
The sit-down interview you've been waiting for is finally here!
For many of us in this community, one institution sits at the center of the conversations we are having about Africa: The African Union.
We’ve talked about it. Debated it. Questioned it.
So today, on Africa Day, I wanted to do something different.
Not just talk about the African Union…but go directly to the source. So later today, I’ll be releasing a very special conversation with the Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United Nations, H.E. Mohamed Edrees.
We sat down for an honest, unfiltered discussion about:
Where the African Union stands today. The challenges it faces behind the scenes. Africa’s position in a rapidly shifting global order. And what the future could—and should—look like
And many of your questions made it into that conversation. Because this isn’t just about institutions. It’s about us.
Africa’s rise will not come from one summit, one speech, or one organization.
It will come from a collective shift—in mindset, in strategy, and in action.
The interview will be dropping today at 4PM EST on our channel. Tune in and join the conversation.

My People!
Sixteen years ago, while I was a student at Syracuse University, I made a documentary for my video capstone project about what it was like growing up African in America — the stereotypes, the misunderstandings, the identity struggles, and the complicated relationship many people in the diaspora had with Africa.
As part of that project, I came to Harlem and interviewed people about Africa.
And I still remember one response word for word.
“When I think about Africa, I think about jungles and lions roaming around naked…”
I’m going to dig through my archives and find that clip for you one day because, sadly, that pretty much summed up how much of the world viewed Africa back then.
But today feels different.
Afrobeats is global.
Jollof rice debates are everywhere.
African fashion, culture, music, and creators are shaping global conversations.
Social media has connected the diaspora in ways we’ve never seen before.
And for the first time in a long time, Africa feels visible.
So I started wondering:
Has the world’s understanding of Africa actually changed? And more specifically… has Black America’s relationship with Africa changed too?
So I went back to Harlem this week — the cultural heart of Black America — to ask everyday people simple questions about Africa.
Some of the answers shocked me.
Some made me laugh.
Some honestly made me emotional.
But more than anything, the conversations revealed something deeper about identity, education, history, and the growing connection between Africans and the diaspora.
And I think it’s a conversation we really need to have.
So I want you to watch today’s episode and join the conversation:
How much do you think the perception of Africa has changed over the years?
And do you think Africans and Black Americans are becoming more connected — or more divided?
Let’s talk about it.

At the 2026 Africa CEO Forum in Rwanda, President Paul Kagame made a bold claim: Africa is still being controlled through sanctions, pressure, and economic dependency.
In this episode of The Breakdown, we unpack Kagame’s explosive comments on sovereignty, resource exploitation, global power, sanctions, and why he believes the “Scramble for Africa” never truly ended — it simply changed form.

This week, in a gilded hall in Beijing, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping shook hands.
The two leaders are meeting to stabilize the world’s most consequential bilateral relationship — a relationship that has, for the past two years, been quietly tearing apart the global supply chain for the very minerals those Congolese miners dig out of the earth.
And if the summit succeeds — if the so-called détente holds — the geopolitical window that was cracking open for Africa may close before the continent ever had a chance to walk through it.
