Meet Joyce J. Starnes—our mama. To the music industry, she was a BMI award-winning writer and composer. To the world, she was a woman from the mountains of Polk County, Tennessee, who wrote and composed from the very bottom of her soul. She picked the guitar, sang at tent revivals, and wrote four volumes of copyrighted music and poetry protected through the Library of Congress.
Yet, she died a poor woman, largely unrecognized, after a predatory publisher stole her works in the 1980s and left her with nothing but cruel words. She used to say she’d hear her songs played on the radio. We believed her then, and we know the truth now. She never received a single dime for her brilliance.
But the story doesn't end there. We created JobieSoul: The Legacy to be a living bridge. This channel exists to represent art that is timeless and borderless, spanning generations and genres to reflect Mama’s life, her deep love of people, her pursuit of justice, and the extraordinary beauty that exists in the everyday lives of ordinary people.
As a non-profit mission, we are dedicated to:

To bring Mama’s unpublished works to life, we are pioneering the use of technology with healthy, ethical guardrails. By using family vocal blueprints and advanced audio tools, we are carrying her voice across generations, proving that technology can be used to lift up and edify the common man.
We believe in total transparency. In the video story attached, featuring photos set to Mama's song "I'm Going Back," you’ll see and hear the journey from her real, raw archives to the AI-assisted audio and visuals we’re creating to bring her world into the light. For us, technology isn't about replacing the past—it's about building a bridge to it.
The Face Behind the Legacy 👋
I’m one of the voices behind this page, Joyce’s daughter. I created this space for my sister, brothers, my family, and to honor a lineage of storytelling that was almost stolen from us.
By day, my background is in Computer System Validation, Healthcare Compliance, and QA. Before taking a break from global industries, I spent my professional life ensuring data integrity and strict ethical standards. That is exactly why I am slowly but tediously approaching this project with healthy, validated guardrails and applying a compliance and auditing lens to hunt down missing royalties, fight for exploited artists, and ensure Mama’s digital footprint is treated with the highest ethical respect.
The final photos you see here are of me introducing myself, and offering a glimpse of a journey from when I was younger to now. Though I am a bit more shy now, I am using the same transparent technology we are using to honor Mama and to extend a warm welcome. Thank you for your support.

Conozcan a Joyce J. Starnes, nuestra mamá. Para la industria musical, era una compositora y escritora galardonada por la BMI. Para el mundo, era una mujer de las montañas del condado de Polk, Tennessee, que escribía y componía desde lo más profundo de su alma. Soy una de las voces detrás de esta página, la hija de Joyce. Creé este espacio para mi hermana, mis hermanos, mi familia y para honrar un linaje de narración de historias que casi nos fue arrebatado.
De profesión, mi experiencia es en Validación de Sistemas Informáticos (CSV), Cumplimiento Normativo en Salud y Garantía de Calidad (QA). Antes de tomar un descanso de las industrias globales, dediqué mi vida profesional a garantizar la integridad de los datos y estándares éticos estrictos. Es exactamente por eso que me estoy acercando a este proyecto de manera lenta pero meticulosa, con límites validados y seguros, aplicando una perspectiva de cumplimiento y auditoría para rastrear las regalías perdidas, luchar por los artistas explotados y asegurar que la huella digital de mamá sea tratada con el mayor respeto ético.
Las fotos finales que ven aquí son mías presentándome y ofreciendo un vistazo de un viaje desde que era más joven hasta el día de hoy. The woman behind the music here at Jobie Soul: The Legacy was a fighter who believed in equality, justice, and the power of truth. For 40 years, she kept four volumes of copyrighted works protected in a trunk, even when a longtime publisher lied to her and tried to tell her she’d never make it.
Mama didn't find out about her BMI award until just months before she passed away. Though she never saw a cent of what she earned in her lifetime, the light in her eyes the day she found out was beautiful to behold. She never stopped writing or singing; even in her final days, she sang "Let it Shine" from her hospital bed.
Today, her music is finally reaching you. We are her daughters and her sons, and we are here to make sure her light never goes out. God is good all the time. ✨

This project, "Jobie Soul: The Legacy", is a labor of love, a journey of healing, and a testament to the enduring power of family.
Our mother, Joyce, was the incredible heart behind these lyrics—a woman who wrote with the grit of country, the soul of reggae, and the sharp wit of a mountain woman. She poured her spirit into her songs, writing from a dozen different perspectives with a deep love for people and justice.
But it is my older sister who is the living melody of this legacy. As a 'second mama' and the family peacemaker, she carries Mama's tunes in her heart—melodies that might otherwise have been lost to time. She has spent her life as a dedicated caregiver, working tirelessly in many roles over the years to provide for her family and look after others. Now, she is the one helping me breathe life back into our mother's words.
Together, as sisters, we are piecing together our mother's collection. Every view, every listen, and every subscriber helps us continue this work and honor the women who raised us.
