Prepping for the Urban Woman / Urban Lady Prepper
I celebrated my birthday last Monday and I can't believe how fast this year is flying by. Another year older and I still haven't won the lottery or bagged Jason Momoa or Michael B. Jordan (yes, I'm practical AF but I still have my fantasies and I'm a Werewolf girl, but I'm open to certain vampires...and any member of BTS). Anyways, it was so nice to see the likes and reviews you guys have left, it truly warmed my heart. Thank you all so very much!! If this post seems weird I've had a couple of drinks and I'm in my feelings about some things, but at least - for a short time anyway - it's about good things. I wish the same for all of you. Enjoy those flights of fancy while they last during this dark chapter!
Have a great week. Find hope and pleasure where you can.

One big part of ULP is my newsletter. I search for underreported news that will impact us, present it in an easy-to-read format, and send it out every Monday. You can subscribe for free to read it; it contains general news, food news, and other information, such as scams and gardening tips.
Check it out on my Substack at open.substack.com/pub/urbanladyprepper/p/ulp-newle…
The newsletter is free, and there is also a $5/month subscription for my 2x/week prepping articles, should you decide to bump up. I do give a generous preview with the free subscription, so you get a quick synopsis of what the articles are about, and you can decide to go paid for the deeper dive (gotta keep the lights on, ya'll!)
Thanks for listening, watching, and reading. I appreciate you!

Prepping for the Urban Woman / Urban Lady Prepper
It's finally happening. My next podcast, uploaded this Sunday, will be a real video with me speaking. Yes, you will get to see my actual face and more of my body than I would like. No, I won't be juggling grenades, injecting memes, or sticking in funny sounds. It will just be me hoping it isn't terrible. But I'm weary of people (and perhaps the algorithm) thinking I'm AI. And getting the message out about preparedness is more important than my dislike of being on camera because I'm awkward AF.
It's the 100th episode of my podcast, and I've surpassed 20k downloads in under 2 years. It's nothing on YouTube, but from what I understand, in the podcasting world, that's great. I'll take it.
I used to be a semi-pro musician, so you would think I'd be all about the spotlight, but I'm a bass player. We just want to drink and make people shake their butts. We leave all the showboating to the lead singer (who we're always rolling our eyes at) and the guitar player (who we always have to tell to turn down) and keep the drummer (who is basically an oversized toddler) in check. It's a dirty, thankless job LOL...
Anyway, I'm thinking about including a Prepping Q&A as part of the episode, so if anyone reading this has any preparedness questions you'd like me to answer, leave them below with your handle (or not, if you want to be anonymous) and I'll include them in the episode. Thanks!
And answering this will help me, too - what would you like from me now that I'll be on camera?

After my website crash, my blog, of which I had 100+ articles since 2024, disappeared off of the web. The minus - Having to salvage all of them. The plus - I've moved to Substack and will start reposting them from the beginning. Heck, the info will be new to many, and it will give me the chance to revisit and update them.
I've gotten a couple of articles up so far, and tomorrow's is titled, "Your Daily Life is Your Disaster Rehearsal." It's about shifting your priorities because, as I say in the aritcle, "keeping up with the Joneses won't keep you alive."
You can read part of it for free here:

So, here's a question for preppers old and new: What was the hardest mental shift when you decided to start prepping?

I have an episode about this but with the 3rd "No Kings" Protest scheduled for tomorrow, I wanted to provide some safety tips for those who will be participating:
- Always stay aware of your surroundings. Trust your instincts and keep your phone charged. Bring a power bank along for backup.
- Got a plan? Let someone know where you’ll be. When things get heated, having an exit strategy is crucial for your safety.
- Wear comfy shoes, bring water, and high-protein snacks! You never know how long you’ll be on your feet during a protest.
- Know how to get around. If you're not familiar with the area, bring a printout in case your phone loses power or the internet goes out.
- Keep your ID and some cash handy. It’s better to be prepared than caught off-guard in heated situations.
- Know your rights! Understanding what you can and can’t do during protests helps you stay safe and informed.
- If you’re caught in a crowd, move with it and try to stay on the outside to avoid injury and make it easier to move away, especially if you have young ones with you. Don’t push against the flow.
- Protests can get loud! Earplugs can help protect your ears and keep you focused on staying safe and aware.
- Stay connected! Use social media or text groups to stay up to date on real-time updates and safety information.
- Avoid confrontation. If tensions rise, it’s okay to step back to stay safe. Your voice is powerful even from a distance.
- Stay calm and collected. Deep breaths can help you think clearly and make the best decisions for your safety.

As you can tell from my last two uploads, helping those with physical limitations is important to me. A very nice lady named Katalina, also an advocate, sent me an email with a link to companies that cater specifically to that demographic, as well as others. To quote her, "This guide stood out because it points to retailers who are genuinely prioritizing accessibility and representation..." I hope that anyone who comes across this finds it helpful, especially if you are being selective about who you give your hard-earned money to. Thanks, Katalina!

I'm a little late, but did you know that yesterday was National Chocolate Cake Day?
When we talk about prepping, we usually focus on the "must-haves": water, batteries, and canned beans. But let’s get real for a second: if the power goes out or things get stressful, a bowl of plain rice isn't exactly a mood-lifter.
I’m a huge advocate for "morale food." For single moms especially, having a stash of chocolate cake mix, canned frosting, or a favorite treat can be a total game-changer. It’s the difference between a scary night in the dark and a "living room campout" that the kids will actually enjoy.
Prepping isn't just about surviving; it's keeping your family’s spirits high when the world feels a bit chaotic. So, while you're checking your shelf-life on the basics, don't forget to include the things that bring a smile to your face.
What’s one "comfort item" you always keep in your stockpile? I’d love to hear your favorites!

Winter Storm Fern is on her way, targeting 230 million people. If you live in the affected areas, please take precautions; don't underestimate weather that can possibly leave you without power & stranded for days or even weeks. STOCK UP if you haven't already. Make sure you have food, water, a means to stay warm (a propane heater is your best non-electric option), and protect those pipes! And please, please bring your pets inside. Don't leave them out to brave weather events like this. If it's too cold and miserable for you, it's the same for them! Check the weather reports regularly to stay abreast of any changes, so you can adjust your plans if necessary. Stay dry and safe!
If you wonder what YouTube weather channels I follow, it's @RyanHallYall and @POWPonderonWeather.
Many people who live in disaster-prone areas may get nonchalant about an announced storm. What about YOU?
