Real With David

I just finished my first marathon, and I wanted to share a bit of how it went. Brussels is a tough course with a lot of hills, and I definitely felt it. I started too fast and hit the wall around kilometer 30. From there it was a mix of running, walking, trying to control my pace, and doing whatever I could to keep moving.

My first goal when I signed up was under 4 hours. During the race, I was aiming for 3 hours 36. After kilometer 30, the 3 hours 45 pacers caught me. I tried to stay with them but finally finished in 3 hours 50. Not too far off, but I had to fight for it.

In the last 500 meters, I did not want to sprint anymore. My legs were done. Then a girl passed me out of nowhere, full speed. I just thought, if she is still pushing, then I need to follow. There is even a picture of me right behind her, literally thinking why, but still going after her.

When I crossed the line, I got my medal, sat down, and my family arrived. That is when the emotions hit me, and YES I dropped some tears. No big thoughts, just tired, sore, and proud.

A video will be up soon where I share what helped me, what I would do differently, and what running a marathon really feels like as a beginner hybrid athlete.

Just a BIG, BIG THANKS to the crowd along the course. Every runner needed that energy.
And of course a big thanks to my family for being there. ๐Ÿ˜
