Wait for the PS6 or buy a PS5 for GTA 6?

If GTA 6 is the main reason you're buying a PlayStation, then don't wait. GTA 6 was built with the PS5 generation in mind, and waiting another 2+ years until late 2027 or even 2028 just means you'll miss the biggest gaming launch in years. By the time PS6 arrives, GTA 6 will likely already be on PC, and a lot of the launch-day excitement and community hype will be gone. You can always enjoy GTA 6 now, then sell your PS5 later and upgrade to a PS6.

For everyone else who isn't in a rush to play GTA 6, waiting could make sense. Rumors suggest PS6 will feature a next-generation custom AMD chipset, much faster ray tracing, AI-powered upscaling, higher frame rates, and significantly more performance overall. If you mostly play newer games years after release and want the best possible hardware, PS6 could be worth waiting for. But if your goal is to experience GTA 6 on day one this November, there's really no reason to hold off.

My opinion is simple: if you're buying a console mainly for GTA 6, buy the PS5 now. GTA 6 is one of those once-in-a-generation releases that everyone will be talking about for months. Waiting another 2 years just to play it with slightly better graphics or frame rates on PS6 doesn't feel worth missing that experience. Yes, PS6 will almost certainly be a much more powerful console based on current rumors, but you'll still be able to upgrade later by selling your PS5. For most people, making memories with friends and experiencing GTA 6 at launch is worth far more than waiting years for better hardware. The only people I would recommend waiting are those who aren't interested in GTA 6 at launch and simply want the newest PlayStation for future games.
