Music and monsoon have always shared a very symbiotic relationship. Rain not only serves as the perfect lyrical metaphor for emotions ranging from love and hope to heartbreak and new beginnings, it also heightens the experience of listening itself. Every time it rains, my favourite thing to do is rush off to the terrace with a cup of coffee, plug in my earphones and spend the next hour or two immersed in my playlist without a care in the world.

Her Prabal Gurung look repurposed a chiffon sari once belonging to Maharani Gayatri Devi, while his embroidered phulghar coat drew on Rajasthani craftsmanship. Their grandparents had attended the Met Gala in the ’80s, and textiles from their archives still carry the Met stamp. “To represent and see that legacy celebrated on a global platform was the very extension of everything that we stand for,” says Padmanabh.
