The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) requires certain U.S. businesses, including LLCs and corporations, to report their beneficial ownership information to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). The deadline for filing the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Report for entities created before January 1, 2024, is January 1, 2025. Failure to comply with this reporting requirement can lead to civil penalties up to $500 per day and criminal penalties, including imprisonment for up to two years and fines up to $10,000.
Make sure to file the report by the deadline to avoid these penalties. Businesses created after January 1, 2024, must file within 30 days of formation.
Here are the simple steps to file your Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report:
1. Gather Information: Collect details of all beneficial owners (full name, birth date, address, and ID number).
2. Create a FinCEN Account: Go to FinCEN’s website and register for an account.
3. Complete the BOI Report: Fill out the online form with the information gathered.
4. Submit the Report: Review and submit the report online.
5. Save Confirmation: Keep a copy of the submission confirmation for your records.
