You know those days when you think, “Why can’t I catch a break? This feels so hard.” Healing is hard—but, as I learned (the hard way), some things I was doing actually made it harder than it needed to be. 😣In this week’s video - https://youtu.be/QKf5C1R_TUA - I’m diving into how you might be doing the same, and sharing what to change to bring more ease into your recovery. 🌱
As a mind-body mentor, I’m often guiding others through their setbacks, but I admit—I need these reminders, too.
After struggling with muscle wastage this year and working hard to rebuild my strength after on and off again attempts in the gym. I finally hit nine consistent weeks of weight training. My back was feeling stronger, straighter, and I could see real progress. Then came one night at a concert—lots of fun, but five hours on a concrete floor—and my back went into spasm. A few days later, I caught a cold, and just like that, my streak was broken.
After some rest and time spent going "ninja" on my unhelpful, self-defeating self-talk - which told me I was back at square one, I decided to go back to the gym—not to push, but to keep the habit alive and check in with how my body felt. I challenged myself just to show up and do a light workout. I really thought I'd gone backwards. But, to my surprise, my back was stronger than I’d expected.
This experience reminded me of three important things:
❇️ Sometimes, after a setback, just showing up is the victory—and it’s enough. Healing isn’t about perfection; it’s about persistence, one small step at a time. If all I did was manage to get to the gym and then walk back home, that’s enough.
❇️ Progress isn’t always erased by a pause in what we're doing.
❇️ Being closed to the possibility that things could be different ensures that nothing changes. Staying open to the idea that this time could be different leaves the door open for the opportunity of a new experience.

I'm not the world's fastest learner —it took me 25 years to figure out what it takes to heal and be healthy. Along the way, I learned a few things that completely transformed how I think about healing. I share 5 that were game changers for me in today's video - https://youtu.be/xH-4yfn1s6E
Ever felt like life was just too much? When this photo was taken a few of weeks ago, I’d hit one of those pressure points we all face from time to time in life. You know the ones—where everything feels like it’s piling up, and life just feels heavy and too much. I won’t go into all the details, but let’s just say my body decided to let me know that it wasn’t happy about how I was dealing with it—with a week-long headache.
After a week of trying to push through the headache, I had that moment where I thought, “I just can’t deal with this anymore.”
In the past, this is when I would’ve panicked, gone into fix-it mode, and stressed myself out trying to find a solution right then and there. Overthinking everything, over-analysing, as if that would magically make it better. But the thing is, this approach never works.
So when the pressure started building up this time, I did something completely different. I went to the park, lay on the grass, and read a book. I didn’t try to solve anything. I just got away - physically, mentally and emotionally for a couple of hours. I let myself feel what I felt in my body, and I didn’t buy into all the noise in my head. I breathed through it and even told those repetitive thoughts to politely p*** off. I did a little tapping.
Changing my environment gave me the space I needed to step back from the problem. Laying on the grass grounded and relaxed me, while reading a book pulled me out of my head and more into my body. By silencing my overthinking mind, breathing and doing a bit of tapping within an hour I was finally able to see things from a different perspective.
And here’s the thing: eventually, without trying, the clarity I needed just came. The solution and perspective shift I was desperately searching for earlier, found me. I didn’t need to force them. It was a reminder that sometimes the best thing you can do is just step away. A state of overwhelm is the worst place to make decisions from.
In the days that followed, my headache slowly faded, and while the life situation didn’t magically change, how I felt about it did—completely.
Next time life feels too heavy, try giving yourself the space to step away. You might be surprised at how things change. 💜
