I don’t even know what to call the emotions I’m feeling right now.

There is anger. There is grief. There is a sick sense of vindication that I hate admitting out loud.

For decades, Palestinians have been screaming into the void. We have been told our eyes were lying. That what we were seeing was complicated. That the footage needed investigation. That the dead deserved skepticism before dignity.

Now Americans are watching it happen here.

We see Alex Pretti holding a phone.
They say he intended a massacre.

We see him trying to protect a woman after ICE agents shoved her to the ground.
They kill him anyway.

We see clear video.
They tell us to wait.

This is the gaslighting Palestinians have lived with for generations. Not because evidence was missing, but because power decided truth was inconvenient.

That’s the part that makes me furious.

Because this isn’t confusion. It’s not uncertainty. It’s narrative management. It’s the immediate rush to justify state violence instead of questioning it. It’s the reflex to assume the person who was killed must have done something to deserve it.

And here’s the part that breaks me.

So many people are only recognizing this pattern now because it happened to someone who looks like them. Someone they can relate to. Someone whose humanity was never supposed to be questioned.

Palestinians never got that grace.

This moment doesn’t feel like justice. It feels like exposure. Like the mask slipping just enough for people to finally see how easily reality can be rewritten when uniforms and authority are involved.

I don’t feel relieved. I feel unsettled.

Because when murder is obvious and accountability is optional, the problem is not a bad agent or a tragic mistake.

The problem is the system.

And once you see that, you can’t unsee it.
