1998. I still remember the first time I met Dave on the steps of Assi Ghat.
He was sitting there with a guitar, singing songs I didn’t understand at the time. But something about the way he played and sang completely mesmerized me. I found myself going back to the ghats every day just to listen.

For the couple of months he stayed in Banaras, I met him there almost daily. Somewhere along the way, I gathered the courage to ask if he would teach me a few chords. He did. Those small lessons on the steps of Assi Ghat opened a door to music for me.
Dave also introduced me to artists and music I would probably never have discovered otherwise, and that changed the way I looked at things.
Over the years, whenever Dave came back to Banaras, we would meet. And he was also the one who helped me convince Amma to buy my very first guitar.

It’s strange how certain people appear in your life at the right moment and quietly shape your path without even realizing it.

Thanks to social media, we recently managed to reconnect after all these years.
