Tim Cook is set to step down as Apple CEO after leading the company for nearly 15 years since taking over from Steve Jobs in 2011. Apple announced that John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering, will succeed Cook as CEO on September 1, 2026, with the board unanimously approving the transition as part of a long-term succession plan.

Cook will shift into the role of executive chairman and remain involved during the handover, calling his time as CEO “the greatest privilege of my life”. Under his leadership, Apple’s value grew from about $300 million to over $4 trillion, built around the iPhone ecosystem and a push into services.
