π Concept of the Week
π° Economic Capital Framework (ECF)
The Economic Capital Framework determines how much capital RBI should maintain to absorb future financial shocks and how much surplus can be transferred to the Government.
The framework is based on the recommendations of the Vimal Jalan Committee.
π A key component of ECF is the Contingent Risk Buffer (CRB).
CRB = Contingency Fund as a % of RBI's balance sheet size.
β Recommended CRB Range: 4.5% β 7.5%
β Current CRB (FY 2025-26): 6.5%
β Amount transferred to Contingency Fund: βΉ1.09 lakh crore
Why does it matter?
The Contingency Fund acts as RBI's financial safety cushion against unexpected losses arising from market, currency, and financial stability risks.
π― Exam Tip:
Remember these:
β’ 4.5%β7.5% (CRB Range)
β’ 6.5% (Current CRB)
β’ βΉ1.09 lakh crore (Contingency Fund Provision)
These figures are important for RBI Grade B Phase 1 & Phase 2.

Q: βSir, what are the previous year cutoffs of RBI Grade B? Is the exam becoming tougher every year?β
Aspirants often think RBI Grade B follows a fixed cutoff trend.
But in reality, cutoffs fluctuate every year depending on:
β’ Paper difficulty
β’ Number of vacancies
β’ Competition level
Thatβs why smart aspirants focus on score maximization, not βsafe score predictionsβ.
In RBI Grade B, even 2β3 marks can change your final result.
