I am capturing these videos to share all that I have learnt from the great Han Jian. The purpose here is to capture and archive Han Jian's knowledge so that anyone with the willingness to learn may benefit from it. Ironically, only those who are truly willing to learn will appreciate this knowledge.

I was trained in playing badminton using the Malaysian and Indonesian techniques in my youth as a doubles specialist. Due to knee and ankle injuries I suffered when I was 16 years old, I decided to stop the pursuit of my dream of playing badminton professionally.

After joining Han Jian's training in together with my children, Han Jian helped me recover from my injuries by correcting my footwork and movement. Not only does his techniques improve my skill level and fitness, I am now able to prevent injuries. I have also discovered that Han Jian's techniques has elements of sword fighting wushu and taichi, ancient exercises with healing properties.

These videos are dedicated to Han Jian.

The channel experienced a huge drop in viewers after YouTube rolled out some changes to the algorthim to filter out AI slob. Due to that, talking head videos got prioritised. It got so bad that I could not use my feed anymore and had to jump straight to my subscriptions to watch the channels I liked.

Due to this, I started experimenting with certain approaches to workaround this change in YouTube. I even created a separate channel called Badminton Training Videos to put my dry badminton training videos and kept the ones with more conversations here in the main channel. Well, nothing worked.

So now, I am saying screw it to YouTube. I am just going to do what I like. I am reverting to the original format where I post edited cuts of training videos, regardless of format. This simplifies things for me, and I hope to revert back to posting videos more frequently.

Trying to edit and post on 2 separate channels while keeping only the ones with more speaking on one channel is proving to be too much work.

So, screw YouTube and the creator recommendations. I am just going to do this the way it was.

That's all for this entry.

Until the next update, eat well, get plenty of rest, and keep the badminton going!

The 25 second clock between rallies screws up badminton.

Who would have thought that the 25 second clock between rallies screws up badminton big time. Congratulations BWF. Your mission to screw up badminton is succeeding spectacularly. Please note the sarcasm used here.

The sliced defense are not new, but Liu Yi and Chen Bo Yang are finding a lot of success using this risky move. Being able to execute this type of defense consistently has brought their game up to another level. Let's discuss.

Short Swing Smash - The Shi Yuqi Smash

The Short Swing smash is a variation of the smash taught by Han Jian. It uses less power levels than a full smash, and has power comparable to a half smash. The flight trajectory is sharper than a half smash. The reason for that is because the swing is cancelled after the hit, which makes the shuttle fly downwards in a steeper arc and lands closer to the service line.

Changing the angle of attack mid game

Shi Yuqi was in all sorts of trouble in the Thailand Open 2026 quarter final match against Koki Watanabe as Koki came back strongly in the second game. Koki was able defend easily against Shi Yuqi’s attacks and looks set to win the 3rd game. Then Shi Yuqi made a tactical change to his attack which took Koki by surprise and won the 3rd game. Let’s discuss.

Malaysia’s decline in global badminton

It has been long coming. Malaysia does not have a plan when it comes to preserving its position in global ranking, much less improve on it. The last man who did have a plan and help Malaysia win the Thomas Cup in 1992 was brushed aside due to politics. Look at where we are now. Pathetic.

BWF Bulldozes through with the 15 x 3 scoring format

BWF declared that the 15 x 3 scoring format has been approved. No details provided. It is extremely frustrating that the sport we all love is being shaped by them whims of those who may not have the best interest of the sport in mind. Money is important, yes, but not to the point where it damages the standing of the sport.

How to spot a fake racquet

Some time back, we bought a Yonex Astrox 99 Play White Tiger. The racquet felt very different from the other Yonex Astrox 99 Play Cherry Sunburst which I have, and I have 5 of them. This made me curious as to whether it was a production defect, but Yonex has very good quality controls, so this was an odd one.

When we dived deeper into the problems with the racquet, it was clear that this racquet was not up to the standards Yonex sets.

The White Tiger is the fake racquet here. The Cherry Sunburst (red and black) is real and bought from official channels.

BWF tries to sell the 15×3 format. I am not convinced.

It is so annoying that BWF has decided to push ahead with the 15 x 3 scoring system without actually publishing a detailed analysis of how this will affect badminton. They have conducted tests at the Junior level and some lower level tournaments… so where are the results from the tests? Without providing any data from the tests just points towards bulldozing through this new format without any data to back it. The summary “report” on BWF just is insufficient to make any conclusions.
