Railroad Talk & Outdoors.

Just jumping on here to say hello and I hope all of you are doing well on or off the rails. You know, I still get messages just about everyday. Most are questions about school, the hiring process or boots or gear that I used during my time and others are typically wife’s curious about the lifestyle and trying to get a better understanding of what their future may look like with a spouse working for the railroad. I try to get to them when I can but I still encourage anyone who stumbles across this page to send a message with any questions.

It’s crazy to think back how many people have reached out with hire dates, if I had to guess it’s well over 1,000 conductors which is absolutely mind blowing and still going. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, watched a video, left a comment etc and allowing me to be a small part of your endeavor. I still wish ‪@norfolksoutherncorp‬ would invite me out to their training center to talk with the CT’s and answer questions in person and revisit their training center. It was an awesome experience and something I will remember for the rest of my life.

I wish all of you the best if you’re headed to school, or working your way to be an engineer by now or maybe even close to retirement and to the people who decided the railroad wasn’t for them. There is nothing wrong with that, if you’re into PLC, Automation, electrical work and have any questions feel free to reach out.. that is what I have been doing for the last 4 years and will continue to do going forward.

CSX guys what’s the general consensus on the change? I can’t help but notice one of the goals for the new CEO “increasing value for shareholders” is always alarming.

YouTube has made some updates that now allows YOU to post questions or comments directly to the community page. This will make things way easier to manage so I welcome everyone new subscribers, the guys / girls that’s been around for a while to ask whatever questions you may have railroad related or not. Some questions asked I may stay away from or answer very vaguely depending on the subject but I still welcome them. If there is one thing I hope I have made very clear on this channel is I don’t put up with keyboard warriors, disrespectful comments so if you see that let me know and we will simply erase that person from this page.

Crazy news, for the guys / girls who have been here on the channel for a while know how much we covered the derailment in Ohio and watched as the STB hammered NS and prior to the derailment they hammered all the class 1 railroads for furloughing thousands of conductors during Covid and not leaving themselves enough qualified conductors to keep freight moving. Since then all of the class 1 railroads have kept a sufficient amount of conductors for the most part and railcars inspections and track inspections have seen improvements also. A lot of this is due to Primus and Oberman. The other board members surly did their part as well, Patrick in my opinion has done a good job at asking the hard questions also. I don’t agree with this and I can’t help but think something is going on to try and get the merger between NS and UP fast tracked which would result in less competition, higher cost to ship goods and more companies falling back to trucks to handle their materials. All of this is bad.

I hope Primus fights this cause there has been zero evidence for Trump to fire him. He’s as good as it gets. ‪@surfacetransportationboard8768‬

What’s your thoughts on this merger? I know there is a lot of NS and UP guys on here. If you don’t want anything to be public shoot me a message on Facebook, I’m curious to what has been talked about on the ground.

Railfans what do you guys think? I want to hear from you also!

There has been a pretty large uptick in views recently which tells me a few things but number 1. Welcome to the channel to all the new subs! I am still here and active, I just don’t post much about the railroad anymore however I think it may be a good time to upload a new video on being a conductor and what to expect.

The views tell me railroads are hiring, and people are curious about the lifestyle and training that’s involved, what do you ever do as a freight conductor which are all valid questions. Looking forward to see all of you soon and never hesitate to drop a comment if you have any questions. This page is full of great railroad veterans who have way more knowledge than me and are always here to help answer questions when they drop by the page.

Thanks again! - Joey

Keep that head on a swivel, especially if you’re in the bowl.
