Today we celebrated 30 years of the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal. It was particularly heartwarming to see Louise Underwood, from Underwood Party Hire & Event Specialist in attendance. Underwoods are a chief sponsor of this worthwhile cause and they are also celebrating their 100th year in business in this, Cairns' 150th year. That really is locals, supporting locals!

Charlatans offer simple answers to complex problems and that occasionally gets them elected, but I commend Chris Hedges and The Chris Hedges Report for those looking for real explanations and answers to the worlds problems.

Chris is no stranger to violence, conflict and acts of terror. He covered wars and terrorism as a reporter for nearly two decades, most of them with The New York Times. He was in Central America for five years covering the conflicts in El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and he spent seven years in the Middle East and three years covering the war in the former Yugoslavia.

Fascism has an ugly face, whatever the human form. Stand against their hate by rejecting nationalism, war, bigotry and racism.

If anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism are at the heart of socialism, nobody has a bigger heart than George Galloway. I don’t agree with George on everything, but his MoatsTV podcast is a must listen during these apocalyptic times.

THIS T-SHIRT STANDS FOR PALESTINE.

A statement of solidarity with a people enduring genocide.

And we stand with BONNIE CARTER.

The 18-year-old woman arrested in Brisbane on Wednesday—criminalised by the LNP’s fascist, Zionist laws.

Her crime?

Wearing a shirt that read “from the river to the sea.”

A phrase now banned under Crisafulli’s authoritarian crackdown.

They call it a crime. We call it solidarity.

They try to silence us. We will only shout louder.

FREE PALESTINE.

Tops of Resistance
Make no mistake, this isn't a 'liberal' policy; it's a fascist one. To register my disgust at the Queensland LNP's political censorship law, which could see you arrested simply for what you wear - I’ll be wearing political T‑shirts every day this week.
Fashion as expression. Expression as resistance.

After it flowered a couple of weeks ago, my first dragon fruit in ages is beginning to form. I love dragon fruit, but I’ve not had much luck producing it in quantity; still, it’s always nice to have surprises. #urbangardening

The word socialism is based on “society”, the idea that society as a whole is more important than individual profits and wealth. Indeed, Australian socialism was so ahead of its time in the 1800s that Henry George, (U.S. socialist) spent time in Australia learning from Irish Australians about early socialism.
Prominent Australian socialists in the 1800s included William Lane, the leader of the utopian New Australia movement; trade union figures like James Stephens and W.G. socialistaustralia.org/

A long-awaited pathway for Winkworth Street is now complete! A huge thank you to the team at Cairns Regional Councill for making this a reality.
As our inner-city suburbs grow, we must continue to invest in infrastructure like this to meet the challenges of the future. This is a great step forward!
