This morning, I received the tragic news of the unexpected passing of Danya. I never met him personally, but it’s hard to express how tragic this loss feels. Danya was a rare gem in this world, an amazing teacher, a top player, and a passionate commentator. The chess world has lost a truly genuine person. It feels so unfair, so sad, heartbreaking. I hope that the chess world will cherish his memory as a reminder to leave something good as he did.
