- *Simplified Tax Structure*: The GST Council has approved a two-tier tax structure of 5% and 18% for most goods and services, with a special 40% rate for luxury and sin goods.
- *Tax Rate Cuts*: Tax rates have been reduced on various essential items, including:
- *Daily Essentials*: Hair oil, shampoo, toothpaste, and toilet soap rates cut from 18% to 5%.
- *Food Items*: Packaged namkeens, bhujiya, sauces, pasta, noodles, chocolates, coffee, preserved meat, cornflakes, butter, and ghee rates reduced from 12-18% to 5%.
- *Automobiles*: Small cars and motorcycles (up to 350cc) rates reduced from 28% to 18%.
- *Support for Key Sectors*:
- *Agriculture*: GST on tractors, agricultural machinery, and harvesting equipment reduced from 12% to 5%.
- *Healthcare*: Life-saving medicines for cancer, rare diseases, and chronic conditions exempted from GST.
- *Education*: Learning materials like maps, charts, globes, notebooks, pencils, crayons, sharpeners, pastels, and erasers fully exempted from GST.

### Benefits
- *Ease of Living*: The reforms aim to reduce the cost of living for households and make essential goods more affordable.
- *Economic Growth*: The changes are expected to boost consumption, stimulate demand, and support economic growth.
- *Simplified Compliance*: The new GST structure will simplify compliance, reduce litigation, and provide predictability for businesses.

### Implementation
- *Effective Date*: The new GST rates will come into effect from September 22, 2025.
